Despite snow squalls - great conditions for both techniques at Highlands.
Was super tough to have respectable classic technique in that stuff. However, I had a coach who'd often video us on tough condition days saying anyone can look good with perfect conditions. Only "good" skiers can look good on tough conditions.
Nice part: was really simple waxing. Blue Extra. Like the Norwegian coach's joke: use Blue Extra. If that doesn't work, use more Blue Extra but work harder.
So true. Both about technique and Blue Extra. Rode Multigrade is the other wax I use. Bit of a glide killer and not a race wax but grip is guaranteed.
Lots of skier friends in Ottawa have added the Vhauti Carrot to those two. A few swore by the Start Tar series but I think it was pretty conditions specific.
What's your take on liquid glide wax?
My friend Toivo the NipissingU coach raves about them. I've never tried, still have Start Green from the 90s to get through first.
I have heard they don't last as long as hard wax but I may give them a try.
I have a polar from the 70s. Will never be used again.
I use Vauhti liquid glide wax and love their simplicity and the glide is excellent. i don’t have to worry about them not lasting as long because i’m usually worn out before the glide wax wears out. I also still have some polar wax.
Wax box comparison from 80’s to today is a good indicator of climate change
You can always use that polar as a binder for those long classic days!
I think i have some Swis Special Green which isnt made any more.
