Event date for Raccoongaine in 2021 is set for the weekend of Sat-Sun March 27-28.

The event in 2020 was cancelled just a few weeks before it was supposed to happen. The 2021 will implement the same course that was designed for the 2020 event, so, very little scouting, ribbon-placing, and vetting will be required for the 2021 event.

Noticed that the Flying Pig national O-meet in year 2020 is happening earlier that usual, on the 3rd week of March.

btw, reason for which Raccoongaine is never in the month of April is because the park administrators place access restrictions to the camping areas. That's why Raccoongaine is (almost) always on the last weekend of month of March.

It's too early to predict what other conditions the event permit will impose. There may be a limit in size, aggregation, indoor meeting.

Registration, as always, will open on New Year's Day, January 1, at 1 PM to the minute. It's always a good show to see how folks rub shoulders to get into the door as fast as they open, as apparently there are the regulars and usual suspects that "compete" for being FTR, "first to register". All good fun.

In the meantime, have fun, enjoy the rest of 2020, and if you got the rogaining fever, check out the Indiana Crossroads rogaine happening in a week, and the Pittsburgh mini-rogaine in mid-October.

Sherpes: We have "rogaining fever" but I really doubt that the Canada-US border will be open on Jan 1. Your president says that Canadians want the border open. What he didn't say was that we don't want it open in the present situation.

he got his wish, but it sprouted up on the North ...

No need for the border to be open on 1/1/21 just to register...

Quite right. No need for the border to be open but the expectation of it being reasonably safe to cross it three months later, needs to be there.

Are you planning/hoping to have a Little Raccoongaine this year as well?

And in an interview today Canada's Minister for Public Safety denied that Canada is seeking to reopen the border. He further said that while some state governors have complained about the closed border, the consensus among the provinces is to keep it closed. With the latest poll I saw indicating 90% of Canadians want the border to remain closed, there doesn't seem much prospect of being able to drive across the border for an O event in March, unless the US can get Covid under control by then.

I'm thinking that perhaps plans to open the border could start forming on 21 Jan 2021.

Plans start forming? Surely election results will be reported earlier than that.

Results, yes, but if a change in government is too happen, very little happens until the new year.
