Oh, I missed your post back in April. Nice shots! Looks like a relatively small crowd - I guess Wed afternoon helped. How was the sound?
They are talking about the possibility of 3 Antares launches per year now. With the next one in Feb, I guess that leaves the door open. Also Rocket Lab will start launching Electron rockets from Wallops soon. The
pad is almost ready. Its a smaller rocket, but at least offers more viewing opportunities. I don't think Electron has launched at night yet.
I went to a high-power model rocket meet once on the eastern shore. They had an FAA waiver for the day and were launching some amazing hardware. I think it was
this group - Higgs Farm is the place. They launch during the fallow season on the farm. There's a 17000' waiver for the next event. Spectating is free.
There's also a
DC model rocketry club that holds model launches on the third Sat of every month in Mt Airy all year long. They provide the pads and launchers and non-member are welcome to launch too. The girls might like to build their own. They do the same at GSFC on the first Sunday of every month, though its a smaller recovery field. Back in the day we used to launch in a
*tiny* field (its now occupied by an apartment complex). Lost a few rockets in the trees :)
I recently found a box of my old launch stuff in a crawl space. I had left some old engines in there...not a good idea in a hot crawl space! Got rid of those, but I still have a few models around. Have a 2-stage I never launched. And one that released gliders.
