Discussion: Corn Maze registration!

This year's far-out groovy CMOUSA championships may turn out to have an additional twist. In addition to the usual afternoon/evening events at Mike's Maze (presumably sprint/long/trail-o/night), we're in negotiations to have an additional race earlier in the day, at a location TBD, somewhere in... well, probably Massachusetts. And it may not happen at all. The Trail-O part is likely to be replaced with... something different. Maybe somethhing equally nerdy like Corn-ARDF.

For those interested in attending, sign up here, and indicate if you're planning to attend the morning part, or the Mike's part, or both. No obligation if you sign up for something and then change your mind later. Entry fees will be $10 for the morning event, $20 for the afternoon evening, or $30 for everything, payable on arrival.

Exact times/locations will be posted when we nail them down. We will be as flexible as we can when accommodating people's schedule constraints (as we have been in the past).

Negotiations not having progressed as well as I had hoped, I'm pulling the plug on the other corn maze for earlier in the day, so it's just Mike's for this event. We may be able to arrange a second corn maze event later in the season, however.

As corn maze newbees, we assume we can get split starts to watch our 6-year old?
Also, we're not ready for the night-O yet, but the afternoon and dinner sounds great.

Split starts no problem. Schedule coming shortly, first event probably starting at 3:30.

I am a relative Maize-O neophyte, having been to just two such events, only one of which included a night-O, so you experts step in if you think I am out of line in suggesting to Ian Wendy and Mori that they are all absolutely positively "ready" for a any kind of Corn-O including night O. At least from an orienteering perspective. The maize maze environment is so constrained, that it's pretty much guaranteed that no one will get in any type of big trouble or be out there for an outrageously long time. Of course one can become quite confused but you won't ever be more than a couple of hundred meters from safety.

On the other hand, if the lack of readiness comes from a family constraint (little kid needs to be in bed, etc. etc.), far be it from me to interfere with those considerations.

Assuming the weather is okay, my sister will be there to watch my girls (2 and 5). I'm sure she's be happy to help watch one or two more kids if that would help.

Yes, the night-O is appropriate for anybody, because we can make accommodations and you need do only as much as you like. We can discuss if you're interested.

The 2011 incident in Danvers MA... I talked to Mike about that, and he knows the proprietor, and... he suggested that since any publicity is good publicity, maybe the whole thing was... well...

I mean, forget the maze, you're in a cornfield, and corn is planted in rows, so if it's really important to get out, it's not very hard. Although that 63 acre maze in CA, that really is pretty big.

Overall schedule has been posted in the event announcement. Start list for the first two events will be posted Friday night (well, that's what I'm aiming for, at least).

An email has been sent to all entrants (or in some cases to the head of the group). If you think you entered but you didn't get an email, first check your spam folder, and then let me know so I can get you added. We can also still accept a few more entries in case anyone else can make it.

Splits have been posted. Overall results were... based on just the Sprint and Classic results, with a little fudging to deal with the people who failed to punch the first control in the Classic, and aren't really all that important. But the medalists, who received theme-appropriate prizes were:
1st: Keegan Harkavy and Julia Doubson (both underage, and the prizes were... well, never mind)
2nd: Ethan Childs and Bridget Hall
3rd: Joe Brautigam and Pavlina Brautigam

Despite the anxieties of the course setter, in my opinion as a participant this was an excellent maze with excellent course setting. As meet director, I apologize for the results spasticity at the event, but at least everything was salvageable after the fact.
