What should we conclude from the fact that your account of these intervals and Kat's differ in important details? "a few metres" vs "ten metres" and "just caught me" vs "finished just in front".

You should conclude that different accounts will (in general) describe things differently. :)

Well... Kat also said that next time he should start a few meters farther back so they could have a true race at the top... which seems to imply that he was getting ahead so that both accounts actually agree. Regardless... way to go running hill! whew.
