Amazing what you went through during the race, we had no idea based on how strong you finished. Congrats on a great race. The heat is a killer for me as well, I actually prefer the colder temps by far. Nice job!!
Congrats!
What's the map issue with 160? With some guidance, it can probably be addressed, as I imagine this spot gets used again.
Thanks guys. It was a good confidence boost for me after a Couple of rough races this year.
In the opinion of this racer Both ends of the trail N from the dirt road is practically non existent and we never even found either end in the dark. The trail in the middle section isn’t too bad weirdly. The connector goes through a field that is just a mess of indistinct trails and doesn’t clearly spit you onto the trail. At the very least the trail should not be mapped with the same weight as the poto.
That being said, if that’s my only complaint about the entire map, I think we’re doing pretty good. Having been messed up there three times tho something just isn’t right. The control was in the right place just getting to it that had me confuzzled.
Are the maps posted somewhere.
Steve made a Livelox, I uploaded my tracks
That area is hard to use for a regular meet, so it hasn't been checked for quite a while after being first mapped. I agree that the Eastern trail should be less distinct.
Yeah, the connector through the little clearing was there for the Hi Land Lake meet, but has since become more obscure and that clearing maybe less clear. Definitely the road end is flaky - in the day time with my practice from a few Nitros it's not bad, but at night, it's barely a hole in that green. One year I dragged my feet near the road to leave a mark. I haven't checked the north end, since I've usually bailed to the woods by then.
The nature of that spot forces you to have that sketchy Poto type approach - if you were somehow east of it, you'd love it, that part's fine. Steve's streamer was missing, so I arrived and was happy, exited to the east and was satisfied, walked up around the trail and came in from the N or NNE and was happy again, but I didn't make that full loop onto that Poto not-quite-junction zone, which I wouldn't be surprised to hear was not perfect.
Yes, it's also funny why the non junction parts of that trail are so good! Like when you find some non Poto trail near Dead Lake that's huge and in perfect condition, versus some ridden 1e6 times per day spot on ILRA that's narrow and full of slappers.
Yes, agreed, that clearing is overgrown and the trail non distinct there. I only came to it from the Poto, so wasn't aware of the connector being bad :(
No worries, I was prepared this time, I recognized it for "the spot" immediately.
Great job, sounds like you had a great race!
