Despite, or because of, walking almost the entire way? Walking can be a good strategy. Looks like the first couple of controls were particularly difficult.
Yep, walking was a good strategy. I saw Sharon en route for a couple of minutes, and she was walking.
As far as the first two being particularly difficult: speaking only for myself, it was more a matter of being unfamiliar with the terrain at first. Got the hang of it after a while; had those first two come later in the course, I likely would have done much better on them (and, I would have likely done poorly on whichever legs came first). On #1, I ran a long way on a trail, and then navigated successfully to 3 clearly identifiable features, each about 100m from my previous known location, leaving me about 125m from the control. Should have been do-able from there, but somehow I missed it, couldn't relocate, eventually saw Sharon heading for what I presumed was #4 (200m from #1) and once she got there, I was then able to relocate and get back to #1, probably about 13 minutes after I first narrowly missed it.
Great job by Geoman of being steady and reasonably accurate!
Thanks guys. It was quite a thrill to get the bronze.
