How did the others fare?

Emma had a solid race in the 12 hour. Meredith struggled, but soldiered on until mid-day to at least get an official finish in the 24 hour. A few others got in enough distance to also get official finishes, but probably half of us weren't even able to get the minimum laps completed, myself included. Last I heard the leader in the women's 24 hour race was taken to the hospital for dehydration and shock. It was a rough day out there.

Although my legs feel ok this AM, every step was painful yesterday while running. Just wasn't worth it. I do believe this will put an end to any further ultra distance aspirations - just not worth the training commitment, too many other fun things to distract myself with - hoping to get back to the O community in a few weeks.

I believe PG has a number of anecdotes about people who declared themselves done with ultrarunning in the aftermath of an event, but who were unable to keep that promise. And one example of the opposite, a guy who was lying by the side of the trail completely bonked and helpless, who was planning his next race.

One never knows, but I went into this race and the training (sic) over the past 8 months with the notion that if I didn't notch 100 (or something close) here under fairly controlled conditions then I would abandon the effort. So I don't think its just a case of post race blues...

You did get the 50 at Pineland, and that's an accomplishment. (As well as 100 at Anchor Down, though you spread it out a lot in time.)

I did 60 at Ghost Train a few years back and dropped it there because there was a hurricane coming up the coast and I knew that had to go to work the next day for storm prep, which I probably couldn't have done with 100 miles in them.

I know it doesn't matter, but from my perspective, awesomely impressive nonetheless. Congrats.

And very pleased to see the WCOC shirt in the photo.

I wore my Strider shirt for the group shot, then changed into the O top before the start because it breathes better than anything else. But even that got stifling after dusk so the shirt came off after the 3rd lap. But in the dark there's no one to mock my pasty white body, so its all good...

It wasn't the goal that I set out to do, but I had a plan, and did a solid job staying on task with it well into the night - running largely alone and in the dark when the voices in your head can really screw with you. 37.5 miles is still a long way under tough conditions (for me), so I'm not totally unsatisfied with the result.

Nutrition was good, I stayed on top of hydration under particularly trying conditions, no cramping, managed clothing well with no signs of chafing, feet were pretty good, but there just wasn't anything I could do about the muscle pain - I did not resort to any anti-inflammatories but that was also a conscious decision.
