Everything went so smoothly. And you got the weather just right, too!

One question on the routegadget, which I'm fairly new to: With each age category in a separate group, is it possible to compare routes between people who ran the same course but were in different categories? Or does that require setting up the routegadget groups by course alone?

Hi Mitch, I'll respond as I posting the weekend events on RouteGadget to lend a hand to Megan. Generally I prefer to post results by course rather than class for exactly the reason you mentioned but, when I checked with Megan, she informed me that the results software that was used only provides the results by class. However, if you pull down the class list, you will see the last option is "All Classes". This pull down list will show all runners who have either drawn or uploaded their routes (regardless of which class/course). Using this you can select runners from the same course (but different classes) and load their routes this way.
If you need more info on RouteGadget in general, we have a "help" page at http://ottawaoc.ca/index.php/resources/route-gadge...

Hope this helps

Another way would be to select the option "Classify competitors by course" when creating the RG event. If the splits are by Class, this will order people by Class, but everyone on the same course will be together. This way you can see the animation of people who haven't drawn their route yet.

A-ha! Didn't scroll far enough to see that. A simple enough solution. Thank you, Michael!

Unfortunately I have only a few mins of my middle course track in my watch. I kept hearing it beep while I was trying to fight my way through the power-line ride on the way to #2. And sure enough that's where the track ends. I guess I need to figure out how to use the button lock mode. I think I saw that somewhere in there.

Hi vmeyer, Sadly that option is only available when uploading an SI results file, not the IOF XML results file. I find it can get really confusing figuring what works and does not work with RG. We (OttawaOC) use SI for our software and I get the XML results and course files for each event. However, RG will only take the V2 XML format for courses and, although the V3 option is shown for the results, I never had any luck with this. So I wrote a small chunk of software to convert both results and course V3 to the minimum needed data in the V2 format. This means I do not need to ask the course designer and results folks to do anything special for me. When I got the V3 results for the championships there was no issue with the course file converting to v2 but my little app choked on the MeOS V3 output (likely because it was structured by class not course). I then tried to use the V3 results and it seemed to work until I realized the first class was missing - turns out RG was parsing out the event name as a class or course. A quick text edit of the file fixed this. Given time and motivation I suppose I could write another app to convert the By Class to By course - it would not be hard. On the other hand I figured if I got the RG up a week or two late, there is not much point!

All this to say it is a bit science and a bit art (with some luck thrown in).

Hey Mitch, I think I heard you struggling through the power line stuff! I was just beside you swearing loudly. I;m still pulling out thorns! Yep - handy to figure out how to lock your watch - found that out the hard way more than once (suppose it should not really have taken me more than once to learn?

You can lock your watch buttons? How do you then unlock them?

Figured it out tonight at the gym. Press and hold the designated button for about 2-3 seconds until the display confirms it's locked. Unlock is done the same way. This is on a Suunto Ambit 3. No idea how it's done on a Garmin.

I heard later starters had much less difficulty crossing that ride.
