I saw that Turner ran Brown and Orange, winning both handily. Looks like he's training to orienteer faster, rather than longer -- good philosophy! Which course did he do first?

He ran Orange first. I think this was Erin's suggestion, though I have also advocated similar approaches in the past.

I know it's also Erin's philosophy; happy to see it gaining traction...

My Dad made me stay on orange longer than I wanted to for the same reason, which in retrospect was a great idea.

I was certainly no kid when I started orienteering maybe 35 years ago, and as soon as I could navigate at all I moved right to red and blue courses, which I am sure was enormously detrimental to my development in the sport.

Yeah, stupidest thing I did was start running red so soon after I had started orienteering. (Especially since I was(/am) not much of a runner.)

me too, cristina. but then again, I didn't think I cared about being good at orienteering, I just liked running around in the woods. Wasn't until 10 years later when I wanted to be good at this sport that I had to unlearn all my old habits.

otoh, getting brought around a red course and shown how to orienteer can be a good way to start.

Might be useful for me to unlearn my old habits. They are pretty ingrained by now!
