I think we have this posted already as an event, but we could use some help spreading the word... only a few weeks to a beautiful event in Cuyahoga Valley National Park - 12, 6, or 3 hour rogaine style race, with controls in a corn maze among other oddities. Register today!

October 14, 2017 - 8AM Mass Start for 12 and 6-hour versions.

The tale of the Peninsula Python has been told since the summer of 1944, when some residents reported finding strange tracks on their property. Others said they saw the creature, a huge snake estimated to be about 15 to 18 feet long, that was rumored to have escaped from a traveling circus.

Hoax or not, your wanderings will remind all of the winding shape of a serpent.

Picture yourself orienteering in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park just as the leaves are changing in early fall. Call it a ROGAINE, an Adventure Race or an Extreme Navigation Challenge. It all adds up to a long score-style orienteering event in one of the most visited National Parks in America.

76 controls / checkpoints will be spread across 20 km2, cornmaze included! Point values vary, so strategy is important to achieve a high score.

Want to amplify the broadcast above with same message but louder. Here are photos of last year's event.

The lodge in the Boy Scout camp is amazing. It is on the National Register. The wood logs and beams are of American Chestnut. There are items left from the 1930's forward that decor the upper walls inside the dining hall. Just seeing it with your own eyes and being there, is great.

From an orienteering mindset, I would add that the terrain has almost no briars, jaggers, rose bushes, thorns. The open forest is real open forest. No ticks (or none to report of).

The overnight accommodations in the cabins are among the most affordable ever. This is turning out to be a great vacation.

The Winking Lizard tavern is inevitably on the route, as it is located in a choke passage between the eastern and western portions of the area covered. Have your buddies rendez-vous there while passing thru, as it happened here:

Message to Master Bo from Grasshopper:

would it be wise to add a beer mug map feature via OCAD to mark that location ?

Will do! One dog tick in 5 vetting days. I did find some briars yesterday on the east edge of the venue. Glad to report that there are no briars or burrs in the corn maze. My new Salomon Speedcross 4 trail shoes are the grippiest shoes I've ever worn.
It will be interesting to see if anyone clears the course this year since I've added half a dozen controls.

You should use OCAD to create this special symbol and use it to mark the Winking Lizard Tavern, and have the tavern agree to a policy of "anybody that shows up with an orienteering map and racing attire shall have a free beer"

I'd have liked to go, but we have our only MTBO of the year on the same weekend, now with a Night-O as well.
