He probably said something like "this is a bad idea" right before losing it, too.
Actually, what he said to himself was "this is a bad idea, I know better, and I definitely shouldn't do this" right before sticking the passport in the wide open, non-closeable shoulder strap pocket on his pack and running down the trail.
It's the kind of move you'd expect from a newb that confidently tells people they are in the wrong spot when they aren't.

I debated calling him out on that, but thought it was "too soon". :-) I should have realized that was fair game, especially considering the fact that you guys still managed the win after the flub!
