Why so many DNFs in the JV middle?
@gordhun: I have no direct personal insight (I didn't look at any W-Y-O maps) but I happened to notice that
cmpbllv's training log (especially "Shadowing Peter" in the Friday entry) includes some telling comments regarding her kids' courses.
Re: mp/DNF...It's not hugely out of line with last year, eh?

FWIW (I wasn't there), the Sat Orange courses were both ~5k.
Possibly a case of the default class for SE Interscholastic competitors in 10-12 grade is JV/Orange, and this is over their heads, if they are Yellow level at their home events. They would have to be entered in F/M Yellow, if they want to do Yellow at this meet, and it is not an IS category, and perhaps they don't/won't travel if not in IS class?
Called out! My sense was that the focus of the IS-related courses was a culminating event for the IS league, and that the related courses seemed more technical (almost one level up for white and yellow, perhaps orange as well) on Fri and Sat than course setting guidelines generally call for. Anna's yellow course Sun was more consistent with what I'd expect of a challenging yellow.
Depending on one's experience level, this was either great or very discouraging. I had a kid with each reaction. I'm proud of them both, and I apologize to any sprinters that may have been distracted by me chewing Pete out for throwing his map down in frustration and starting to march off!
Having been guilty of approving too hard kids courses while at West Point (before teaching our own to O), I do wish that white would remain appropriate for our youngest orienteers. It is hard enough when they are just becoming independent - those who need more challenge can usually move up to yellow early without much issues. Or if a challenge is desired for IS that stretches normal practices, consider splitting the courses.
We had a wonderful time, thanks to the entire GAOC team for hosting us!
Big picture, it is wonderful that the regional IS Champs was also a national competition. What a great way to get our top youth ranked and gain visibility at the national level. I hope other clubs will adopt this model. As this year's WIOL Course consultant, I learned a lot thinking about how to do something similar should COC decide to do so.
Gord, to run in the Intermediate class(Y), IS runners must be in 9th grade or below. If 10th grade or above, they must run in JV(O) or Varsity(B/G). Many of them are just not ready, but if they don't run IS, they don't get to travel.
At the same time, this is the first big IS event of the year and coaches are trying to figure out their teams for the Nationals - both JROTC and the US IS.
Very much enjoyed all four courses I did, thanks for a great weekend!
Have final Sat+Sun results been posted anywhere?
Yes, on the event web page.
See, I knew you could do it! School names will be added later today, hopefully...they got deleted from the file between Saturday and Sunday.
Thanks for that Valerie. The Florida students can earn ranking points in the state-wide series and while none will earn many points it was shaping up to be a daunting task to track them down and allocate the points.
You are welcome, Gord. I will email you the new file in the meantime.
Two galleries of photos are now posted. One features the Friday thru Sunday Georgia Navigator Cup events; the other features the Monday Extreme-O
Will maps & courses be available on Route Gadget?
Thanks, Mike! The guys laughing on the tight rope was great! Wish there was video. We are still laughing.
I agree! As someone who's never done the extreme O, it's interesting to see what I've been missing!
A few more photos and short vid clips. Mostly from Friday and Saturday. Thanks to Steve Houghton and all GAOC members who helped out with this meet.

Thanks for all the pictures, everyone! Great shots. Does anyone have pics of the Campbell guys on the rope bridge? I'm still amazed they made it across without going into the water...
