Sure is a thriller, with nice twist in the end.

Wow! I never even noticed the trail route to the right. Mine was similar to yours except with a stop for water at #11 on the way to 9.

Boris, some background on #9 from a M50 perspective: On a Long course, I think there are both physical and mental benefits from choosing a few easier route choices, if available. Also, while M21 Elite runners are so physically strong that they can run straight regardless of the climb or terrain, non-elite runners like me, often under-estimate how much we slow down while running uphill in the forest. Exiting #8, I spent about 10 seconds standing still looking for route alternatives. Going straight, I estimated an avg speed of 11 min/k. Running the trail to the right is about 50% longer than the direct line, but with limited climb, and I believed it would be the fastest solution for me. The approach to #9 was also much easier from the North. Big thank you to Alar for providing us with such an interesting long leg.

Niels>>Thanks for your side of the story!!
On this day, I was in the exact opposite boat. My body was hurting, but my brain was working ok (until the end), so it didn't matter to me whether I was running through the woods or on a trail - I was still slow, so going straight seemed like the right solution to me. I am not sure I would have been much faster on your route, but it'd be interesting to check.

What the heck happened to you at #12? So close, so many times!
