I ran the second leg of this race, which was ~15km. Followed my race plan pretty well. First km is primarily downhill, so adrenaline and that made for a fast split. After that, I pretty much followed my race which was an easy warm up for 4km then put on a bit of gas and run a long tempo, dictated by the hills. I picked up 17 places for our team, ended up out kicking a guy I had just passed 100m earlier at the finish. I didn't hear him coming up till the last 10 meters or so. Overall very happy with the effort. I was nervous with my gout flare up, and each time my left foot hit the ground it hurt, but the effort really felt easy. I was talking and joking the whole way with no difficulty except on the climbs.
