Discussion: Custom Activities for Fenix 3

Has anyone figured out a way to track a multi-discipline event (i.e. an adventure race) as one activity with the Fenix 3?
You can set up the custom activity after the race briefing because you'll know the sequence of events, but then what? Is there a way to switch disciplines without stopping the activity?
I have a feeling this is the $64M?

The problem is you can't switch back and forth so it would need to be based on a triathlon type format linear changes of sport.

Its the one reason why I keep being drawn back to my Polar V800 as it is so easy to track a 'free multisport' switch sport profiles as much as you want.

Are many RDs cool with having a device that provides (at least) distance data readily visible to the racer? You could bury it in your backpack but you'd have to remember to get it out at each TA to switch sports. I use a buried watch or GPS data logger (no display) and have enough trouble remembering to turn it on once at the beginning of the race.

Nice! I just noticed MHtrailvet's question now. In Ontario, it depends on the race. GPS devices are prohibited for Wilderness Traverse, the major 24-hr race here, but GPS loggers and watches are allowed in STORM events like Storm The Trent and RockstAR.

I like to be able to review my route afterward but I just set it to display elapsed time so that my Ambit acts as a watch.

Thanks Bash. My question may have been half rhetorical. Ultimately we're on the honor system as to what we're doing with our watches, phones, etc., but I don't think many race staff or fellow racers want to see racers fiddling with a worn/visible GPS watch during the race.
