Interesting - I wonder what they actually mean by Sunshine Coast as most of their pictures are from the Sea to Sky Corridor (which normally is not considered the Sunshine Coast).
Revy, you're so picky about geography. :)
Did we ever figure out if the "Kootenay Rockies" from 2011 really exist? Just go with it :)
Stock "Canadian" pics. Except they forgot the maple syrup and Mounties.
The RD is Canadian so you can be sure she'll leave the stereotypical Mounties out of it. It would be great to have maple syrup at *every* event though!
Does that mean I have to start carrying Maple syrup in my pack?
..... there are people who don't carry Maple Syrup in their packs?!?!
Ssshhh, it's our secret advantage.
Who's designing the racecourse?
Will be interesting to see how the ARWC 2017 date and location impacts attendance at PQ 2017.
Yes. I fear the dates will be in too close a proximity for teams to legitimately do both... PQ will probably bear the brunt.
And most local (North American) teams probably won't have the budget to do both big expensive races in one year. In big races like these, the local teams often help fill a lot of the spots, so it will be a shame if a lot of them don't sign up.
Yes, It might have been ideal to have the AWRC in North America in 2017 to draw a lot of local interest in expedition racing, followed by a big PQ in 2018 for any teams that are then hungry for another big adventure. Or have the big PQ in 2016 for teams that want to do an expedition as practice/training before the ARWC.
Will CT change format or is ARWC moving towards stage racing?
This link indicates that the traditional non-stop format will be used.

Another good example of how the seeming lack of coordination hurts everyone, RDs and racers alike. I know PQ is its own entity and such, and I can't say I know that they didn't talk to Rev3 or ARWS, but I'm guessing they didn't.
We actually avoided planning any further or scheduling an expedition for 2017 (we had been considering it) because we heard rumblings about this through the grapevine. Looking to 2018 instead since it now looks like we'll have at least three major races in the summer of 2017 (if XPD Alaska runs again). This doesn't include 361's announced expedition or Happy Mutant's several 3 day races.
Seems like we have gone from 1-2 long races in all of North America to a ton of them rather quickly:
Florida Sea to Sea
Happy Mutant x 3/4/5
Alaska
Cowboy Tough (and I hear rumors of new XPDs in new places after Wyoming)
361
PQ
Feel like I"m forgetting one...
I think this is to some degree thanks to Grant Killian's terrific efforts to get it going again and for setting a high bar with the level of competition in New England, but if RDs are not coordinating, then I think all of them will suffer and get watered down.
I guess it's a good problem, but I think having races at this level with only a dozen or so teams is problematic.
Prize money is down $20,000 for ARWC 2017
Kyle, do you think that'll affect participation?
Short answer is no. Long answer coming…
