Failed to mention that he is the M60 Champion by nearly 10 mins - doesn't look like the errors cost too much. The race for second was somewhat closer with a margin of 22 secs over third.
Very hard to assess when the splits are listed by class.
I think I got the fastest time on H3: W50, W40 and M70 shared the course, Eventor has the results.
Mind you Jim Man M70, did a warm up on H4 when he took the wrong map, not sure if that was an advantage or disadvantage?
Tomorrow will be another day!
Maybe splits can be by course tomorrow?
Yeah, try telling that to the guy who uploaded the splits for Jack when I'm camping at Marrinup overnight with no internet reception!
Anyway I had thought that:
a) Uploading by class was the correct method for state champs; and
b) That AP would realise that courses were the same and group them.
Obviously neither was the case.
I use Attackpoint for analysis of training and racing - and I think that is what the site is mainly aimed at. Its not a results service for state champs or any other event. When you have only 1 or a handful of people in a class it makes no sense to generate a separate page for their splits. Attackpoint has very useful split analysis algorthingys, like the error time and percentage calculation, the overall or general speed calculation, the automatic split position generator, the comments option and the OK graph. Maybe not as good as Winsplits on some of those, but handy and easy. In both systems the more people you can compare against the better, as you get a truer picture of what went right, what went wrong and what works. The issue I'm worried about is that I don't want "Upload by Class" to become the default, preferred or "we've always done it like that option".
The categorisation is done at *export* time, not *import* - when doing AP uploads I don't get the choice to say "group results by course", and I'm reasonably sure OE doesn't export them with that information. For normal events, the XML file lists a set of "classes" - ie. VE, E, M, H4 etc; for major events those classes are the age groups.
I'm not even sure if IOF XML (v2, at least) even supports the concept of a "course" as distinct from a "class", since it's not overly important from a timing/results point of view.
Yeah it does, I could have grouped results by course or by class on the weekend but I chose by class for results purposes. I probably should have done both - one for Eventor and one for AP. I could probably still get it done and delete the current results from AP (with Ken's help). I'll see what I can do - need to find out who has the computer now though since I don't.
Actually I'm pretty sure OE does have the course info on export. I've loaded plenty of splits to AP and there is a "Course No" column in the csv file. There is also a "Cl. No." for the class, but Ken has told me that AP uses the Course info by default.
Note my caveats about IOF XML, and v2 in particular, since that is what I use to upload results.
For this weekend's events I received no results from anyone on Sunday, and only the XML files from Dad on Saturday - for Sunday I pulled the uploaded XML file back out of Eventor and used that to get splits up on AP in a timely manner.
If you want to have tears about that, I suggest you talk to all the people who inevitably have tears when splits aren't up within 3 hours of course close, and you can all have a giant waily at each other.
I asked your dad to send them to you on Saturday since I wasn't going home and by the time I got home on Sunday (about 6:30pm), results were already up on Eventor and AP, otherwise I would have forwarded them to you also.
One of many emails from Ken - IOFXML 3.0 files can have the course information.
Hi Eoin,
I think this should be working now. AP will combine the classes from IOFXML 3.0 files when it has enough information to do so. I tested it on your recent uploads and it looks ok. Let me know if you notice any problems.

Great! Please arrange for the caravan crews to export in IOFXML 3.0 format, thanks O-ing. <3 ♥ <3 S2
Actually I think a csv would be easier - thats what I've had most success with asking for from the multi variety of event organisers that get lumbered with the computer after the race.
By the way no complaints from me. I'm happy and impressed with everything OAWA achieves. TBT is amazing. I know volunteers are overworked (I am one). It is great to have splits in any form on AP. It could be better, but thanks and thanks again for such a wonderful service.
Except that Eventor doesn't do CSV, and CSV is, in fact, the devil. Especially if you have to edit splits to remove brick timing errors, or the caravan crew put a comma in a person's name and don't use string delimiters.
Also, uploading to AP by course is going to make my life significantly harder. For championship events I think you would agree that Eventor (as the official repository) should have results by class. The Eventor API doesn't give TBT course info (only class), so if AP has results by course then TBT will have a much harder job working out who is on which course and the AP integration will make a lovely big mess. :(
So does that mean I shouldn't get a hold of the results be course, erase the current AP results and start again? It would be nice to know just how much I smashed Shane on for each split, particularly the one where he went through OOB.
Incidentally, it is your dad who asks for results in XML 2.0.3 format because he says 3.0 comes up with too many issues dealing with Eventor. So that's why we use 2.0.3.
On AP you can see your place in the "common" under each leg so if you are on the same course as another class, then each leg has all the people on your course. Alternatively if other courses also have that leg then you can compare against them as well. That works well for me
For a Champs or other event where I run in an age group I want to see my result against my peers in the age group and not mixed up with other classes.
Why click once when you can click 25 times? You did very well Richard against The Robs. Well done. But it doesn't tell me how well you did against yourself. When I look at splits I'm analysing my own performance and I need more information to use. And on one page, not 25 pages.
I do agree with O-ing on this one; I'd have preferred to see my result against everyone who rode course 1 but if it's easier not to for the reasons mentioned above, well I'm just as happy to have done it this way. Plus I won't get any AP points for my awesome performance given there weren't enough APers in the class. You can see your result against your peers in Eventor or on Juffy's TBT split page.
But it doesn't tell me how well you did against yourself.
I knew that already when I rode 2 km the wrong way!
