Managed Wilderness Traverse Race HQ - 35 hours without sleep but it was exciting as always and fun to see so many friends.

Short sleep after staying up until the wee hours learning about the Yellowbrick trackers that arrived last night, then writing a Wilderness Traverse Emergency Protocol based on them. No problem, I can catch up on sleep this weekend - NOT!

Race check-in took place at our host site, Grand Tappattoo Resort near Parry Sound.

Many thanks to Pat Chan, who flew out from Edmonton to help us out at WT HQ!

Another WT preparation day. I was planning a long, productive evening but the power has gone out with an estimate of 3 hours to restore it. So I can't use my electronics (for long), can't make dinner and can't drink water. I guess I could pack by headlamp. I'm thirsty already!

I thought about running. Sigh.

If you haven't seen it, Cristina Gordhun dug up this amazing vintage video made by Orienteering Ontario at "the first championship event in Canada" in the late sixties. "A sport of mind and muscle!"

I'm getting bored with recovering but it's been hard to sneak away from the computer without feeling guilty. Today I had the perfect excuse! I needed to check a large construction site at Albion Hills that Coach LD had told me about. I wondered what impact it would have on our Star Tracks Mountain Bike Adventure courses. Mick and I had finished up the course design and mapwork in August - or so we thought.

I rode at the site from different sides to figure out where all the fences were. I can't figure out what they're doing but it sure affects a large area. We won't have to change the Open course but we might tweak the Novice course.

Then I went to Deer Run to check out a campsite that Funderstorm recommended for the pre-race camping that we're trying to encourage on Sat. Oct. 14. Nick is organizing a couple of low key training races that evening, one of them after dark. The Stars will provide marshmallows and the first bag of firewood for the communal fire!

Only a few more days for earlybird entries to Star Tracks.

Separate entry for Sat. evening races (very inexpensive)

Please let me know if you plan to camp. You'll book directly with Albion Hills but I'm thinking we can help people share sites to keep costs down.

P.S. I love my new bike. It's hard to remember that I ever felt awkward on this 29er.
