Running race 4:23:00 [3] 28.92 km (9:06 / km)

In short, the theme of the 28km at Limberlost Challenge for me would best be described as "mistakes were made." Most of the mistakes were in my head, such as starting too fast, which translated into mistakes in my body such as my hands swelling up and calves cramping due to what I assume was unbalanced electrolytes. In any case, this wasn't really my day with a much slower and grumpier second loop than first and a good hard fall down a slippery rock onto my tailbone. On the plus side, the course was absolutely stunning, I got a good long run in, and had some great chats with people on the trail!

Running 42:00 [3]

Pre-work run at the Hydrocut. The bugs were so bad because of the humidity that this was barely enjoyable, which is too bad because other than the damn mosquitoes, it was a beautiful morning! I guess they didn't get the memo that their Kawartha relatives already stole 75% of my blood this past weekend.

Paddling 4:00:00 [3]

Day 3 was a rest day spent lounging around in the water in our floaty toys and deciding when it was time to drink our remaining beers. We all took turns paddling around the area in the kayak and making up stories about the people at the other sites, who we gave names and backstories to.

Day 4 we were all business! Up and out of our site by 9:00. The first portage tested our patience and positive attitudes as the bugs were REAL bad! Then we had a fairly lengthy swamp crossing that involved an annoying short portage over beaver dams and careful route finding. Everything went smoothly until the skies started to look threatening as we approached our final (YAY!!!) portage. There were tons of paddlers coming in at the same time and we were using our adventure racing skills to make efficient transitions and get ahead of dawdlers. As we got all our gear to the end of the portage, the rain and thunder and lightning started, so we spent about 30 minutes waiting it out with other paddlers. Once it was safe we aimed to be first off the water and across Anstruther Lake to where the second car was parked and warm All Day IPAs we were waiting for us to commemorate this successful adventure! It was tough and trying at times, but those are great character building experiences and were absolutely balanced out by all of the cold beers, delicious meals, and ridiculous laughs that were had out there!
