Trekking/Hiking 3:30:00 [3]

I wanted to do another walk from Coniston today so chose this one: https://www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_1.html

I could tell from the beginning that the main challenge was going to be the wind as it was very blowy right from the car park. The other challenge was that my legs were starting to get a bit tired from several good days of climbing! Once they warmed up though, they were agreeable to the challenge.

I could see one person ahead of me on the ascent up Walna Scar, and eventually could look back and see others, which was reassuring as I found the winds a bit unnerving. At the top of the first pike, I was considering turning back and it was foggy and the winds were raging, but then I met Ben and Ron who were doing the same route and invited me to join them. I was so glad that I did as the climb up Dow Crag over large wet spiky boulders was more than I would have attempted on my own. With company, it was kind of exciting to be out there in the wind, but meant that it wasn't feasible to stop for many pictures or enjoy the scenery. As we descended down via Goat's Water, Ron pointed out the bright blue "stretcher box" at the bottom of Dow Crag which is apparently used by Mountain Rescue enough to extract people climbing in the area that it made sense just to leave one there...eek!

Lunch was a delicious cheese and onion roll and crisps purchased from the local bakery and eaten on the way back to the car. I did a quick change back at the cottage and then set out for Swinside Stone Circle and for a drive around Coniston Water. The sun started setting each day before 4 so I tried to make the most of all day light hours available to me!
