Running warm up/down 5:17 [1] 0.65 km (8:08 / km) +14m 7:20 / km
shoes: NB wt00

O-training 14:08 [4] 1.96 km (7:13 / km) +16m 6:56 / km
shoes: NB wt00

Definitely was not prepared to do any sprinting today; atmosphere at Charlie's was just so relaxed. But, it appeared that the Team of Balter and myself would be battling the Team of Becky and Ed, so I had to try to run somewhat fast. Balter came in first but I forgot to clear my e-punch, and then I was confused trying to orient the map to the first control. Becky came in and tagged of to Ed and he took off crazy fast. I got my shit together and went in for the chase. Took first few controls together but then I took a different route to 4(?) and did not see Ed again but thought he was ahead of me. This was a super easy trail course but my calves were still shot from Friday's workout so I felt like I couldn't move fast, plus it was ridiculously humid out.

O-training 16:43 [4] 1.91 km (8:44 / km) +50m 7:43 / km
shoes: NB wt00

So Balter got sort of lost on his second sprint and tagged off to me a minute or so behind Ed. I was finally warmed up to do some running but this second sprint was not for beginners and involved bashing through through mtn laurel, and so was slower than the first. I caught up to Ed and mistakenly followed him to #6, realized situation wasn't right and attacked the control again without telling him, hehe. Messed up #9, and basically the whole thing was rather sloppy on my part. As a team we finished first anyway :) But, kudos to Becky for kicking our butts on these sprints.

Running warm up/down 13:38 [1] 1.69 km (8:05 / km) +38m 7:16 / km
shoes: NB wt00

A little jog on trails followed by nice burgers and socializing.

Shocker: WCOC's board meeting was 13 minutes.

Running intervals 1:25:03 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (35:03 @2) + (20:00 @4) 13.03 km (6:32 / km) +44m 6:25 / km
shoes: Patagonia trail

Balter dragged me out for 10 x 500 m trail intervals, same stretch of trail, turned out to be alternating uphill there and downhill back. He tells me I'm a lazy bum who runs slow on my own, and maybe he is right to a certain extent. Having someone pace you def. makes tough workouts seem more tolerable.

Circuit (running) 48:39 [3] 6.59 km (7:23 / km) +17m 7:17 / km
shoes: Nike Lunaracer 3

Circuit workout on track with ~300 m reps on turf in btwn. It's amazing how different the atmosphere is on a city track vs a suburban one. In jersey I basically had it all to myself but in queens it is madness even at such an early hour. Got an invite to join some boys for soccer, which I politely declined being so focused on my super important workout. Did not have any oomph today though. Lower legs still in mucho pain, feeling like glass that's about to shatter. Foot pain returning in these shoes, so may need to stop wearing them for a while.

Note

Sure glad the sprint camp was in Boston and not in Tbilisi
8 PM

Running 29:23 [2] 4.6 km (6:23 / km) +39m 6:07 / km
shoes: Altra 1.5

Easy evening jog in light drizzle. Shins and calves sore but should be fine soon. Swelling in foot has gone down and so has the pain.

Note
(rest day)

I'm going to take a few rest days, adjust back into normal life, and reflect on the lessons from my trip. World Cup competition, training solo, and Boston Sprint Camp provided an interesting combination of not only orienteering venues but people and places. The great thing is that I felt immersed in the experience and have grown from it. Overall, it was an awesome trip with some awesome people. Glad I did it, and thankful to HVO for the travel grant.
