Day 2 US Champs Red course. I knew there was no chance for me to win so the goal was just to enjoy the present moment and be clean. Today was so much better for my physical state as my body was finally adjusting to the altitude. Peter's comment prior to the race also helped. He said something along the lines that whatever is bothering you should be completely forgotten once racing, it just should be put aside and all that matters is orienteering. I put all my mental and physical dilemmas aside at the start and it seemed to help me keep good flow and contact with the map and compass. I definitely enjoyed my time out there today, and even the sound in my head of my own hard breathing became a repetitive noise that somehow was as soothing as it was stimulating. Plus, I had a great opportunity this weekend to practice my compass bearing skills, in which I am developing more confidence.
