Gorgeous weekend continues! Today I was happy it was sunny, unlike WP where all I wanted to do was crawl into a cave somewhere and sleep. It helped that I got an amazing nine hours of sleep last night. Warmed up Ok, spent more time observing the flowers by the start instead of focusing on my strategy. Well, I told myself to just avoid the green as much as possible, so that was pretty much it. The beginning of the course was not really that fun, just based on how I felt. But by control #5 I felt stronger and energetic enough to push harder. I didn't have to force it either, which was great. Good flow the rest of the course with minor hesitations. Took the straighter, over the hills route on #13 and believe that was a good route for me. Messed #16 up a little bit, went straight instead of continuing on the road. Then out of the way left on #18 and left again on #19. Is it an inkling into my political views? Who knows.. Last couple of controls were tough, didn't have any strength left.
I have to say I believe the reason for extra energy I felt on the course today is due to Angelica's dinner last night. It must be the grass-fed beef, the kale, the pasta. Most definitely the grass-fed beef though. Oh and the beer of course.

DVOA Red Day 2 Experimenting with diff. colored lines for better visibility, not sure this one works.

So I'm sort of getting used to mass starts and am not as scared anymore (maybe its an acquired taste..). However, I still feel very slow. Punched #1 with the pack and lost them immediately after. I tried my best to keep up to #2 but to no avail. Only Jeff Seager and a young dude in a white t-shirt where with me for the next few controls. But I did not despair really, just tried to keep my cool and move to the best of my current abilities. On #3 I'm not sure I picked a good route, going left to the field right away would maybe have been faster. Some hesitation on #4 but Jeff helped out on this one. Slow up the hill to #5, just miserable going on the field, hit the control no problem, hit #6, walking up the hill to #7, then surprised to meet Balter at #8. Tried to keep up but he disappeared over the horizon never to be seen again.. er.r.. nope, saw him again at #10. I got stuck on #11 and did not understand what was mapped. Saw the control eventually, unstuck myself from the briers and hopped to it like a little rabbit. And off to last couple of controls with a finish ahead of Balter, tagging off to Sergei Gnatiouk.
Sixth place in the 3pt category but our third leg runner, Peter Zakrevski, totally rocked the fields and brought us up to a fourth place overall finish! Pretty awesome!

Tempo run on essex trail, thoroughly not pleasant but necessary. Warmed up Ok, had hiccups for first 10 min or so. Did not feel like I had a lot of energy or spring today. Did 18 min at ~160 bpm, for all of which my stomach was on fire. Cool down was slow but my HR did not want to come down.

Note
(rest day)

Work stress is getting to me and my sleep consists of intermittent dreams about website design between moments of restlessness. Postponing the tempo workout to tomorrow and taking a nap instead.

Easing into speedwork with 10 x 100 m strides. Came out to 22 - 24 sec.
Need to get better shoes for track as the ones I wore today are too minimalist and hurt my shins when running on pavement.
