Hay Creek Red, day 2:
I was mostly awake for the start but as soon as I set off on my course I knew it was going to be not only tough physically but mentally today. Something was definitely missing. Intuition left me today and with all my conscious effort to concentrate I could not to save my life. This made for some sloppy orienteering, which was thoroughly not fun. I would say my state of mind matched this terrain; uneven, uncomfortable, and thorny, with a mountain of thick fog in between my eyes. I probably looked green in the face too as I finished. Just totally not feeling it today. Few reasons for this, the main one probably being insufficient and improper recovery. Sure, my physical state is just coming up so it's no surprise these races would be difficult. However, I really have to make a serious effort on the nutritional front. Being a loose vegetarian I definitely need to watch my protein, iron, and b12 intake. Protein powder? Need to do some research on how to be a proper athlete to not royally screw up my training as has happened in the past.

French Creek Red:

I knew this weekend was going to be tough for me physically. The first day went mostly well. Open woods, rocky in places, orienteering not difficult as long as you maintain compass contact. Did Ok up until 11, where the urge to just run to the top overcame following my compass. Came out to the trail and it seemed like it was the top but I was fooled by the shallow reentrant and searched for the control way right. Lost some time and for a slow-poke like me the minutes wasted are especially devastating. I would say I'm not very good at relocating b/c I don't make mistakes often. Need to do some exercises for this.
