orienteering - race 56:39 [4] ** 9.46 km (5:59 / km) +300m 5:10 / km
ahr:157 max:175 spiked:18/19c (injured)

SCOA League, Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Left calf a little tender beforehand, survived more or less OK although not right and definitely sore at the end. But right calf suddenly started hurting half-way round; struggled thereafter. Thought I'd kicked it with other heel when squeezing through some saplings, but cause could be internal. Difficult to walk, can feel lump. TRIMP 136.

Hope that 5 days with cycling only will enable it to heal before British Sprints. Having survived XC season, it's immensely frustrating to be picking up these repeated injuries, and being reduced to cycling when I need to be running.

Errands in Harwell, then to Upton and Ridgeway: Churn - Streatley - Fair mile - Woodway. Damp after earlier rain. Brief test-run for calf and it's OK. Cycling reasonably hard but not flat out. TRIMP 115.

Hagbourne Hill (road), trying hard. Twice from each of the three directions and one for luck up the steepest side. HR recovered fast, e.g. 156 to 78 in <2 min down the steep bit. TRIMP 65.

cycling (trail) 58:57 [2] 20.5 km (2:53 / km) +190m 2:45 / km
ahr:125 max:155 (injured)

Calf better but not yet ready to run on. Sun had broken through the mist by lunchtime so much warmer than so far this week. More relaxed ride, Lands End - Old St - W Ilsley - Gore Hill. TRIMP 65.

Wednesday Mar 14, 2012 #

cycling (trail) 59:08 [3] 21.59 km (2:44 / km) +180m 2:38 / km
ahr:135 max:160 (injured)

Bury Down - Lowbury Hill. Calf still too bad to run but OK to cycle. Tracks dry, pushing hard; just crept into intensity 3. Then some back exercises. TRIMP 86.

cycling (trail) 55:41 [2] 20.86 km (2:40 / km) +140m 2:35 / km
ahr:132 max:151 (injured)

Calf now good enough to cycle firmly, but nevertheless take the climbs on the gentler sides. TRIMP 75.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Conspiracy of injury, fog, meetings and a chess match resulted in a rest day. Probably about time, to be honest. Still can't comfortably stand up on the pedals.
Pulled out of Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks Challenge.
