strategy was to cruise around conserving energy, push when I could, took until #11 to catch 2mins on Ricky Baxter, time to push on the 'urban' leg, downed a gel on the long path run to #16, still ended up plodding uphill to #23 and #24, better to #27

9th, 5mins behind JL (who was carrying an injury and couldn't engage top gear)

six years ago, I was 27th in this race

JK Middle distance, Old Windmill Hill
tough conditions for everyone, 23° and a lot climb in the second half of the race, blew it when fatigue encouraged me to choose an indirect route to avoid climb when there was in fact very little to avoid, also executed poorly (2mins), v slow into next control taking wrong route out of rhoddies and not making sense of veg in circle (1min)

9th, 6mins behind JL

clean run, only lost time bumping into another competitor and emit not registering at #3, enough to miss out on the podium, but pretty pleased with that result
