Trail run 29:40 [3] 3.3 mi (8:59 / mi)
weight:185lbs
Arrived home at noon after 30 hour commute from Livingstone, Zambia via Johannesburg and Atlanta. Family trip to southern Africa was an extraordinary experience, but hardly ideal for my fitness. The damage appears to be 10 lbs and unclear deconditioning.
My housesitter had a significant respiratory ailment for nearly the entire 19 days I was away, and consequently the dogs were starving for activity by the time I arrived home. I tested myself on the Caryl Short Loop where I saw the least potential for turning an ankle. I was actually able to tackle the uphill leg relatively competently, but I found I had no energy to stretch out my stride on the return leg. I was satisfied to have done the loop at a 9:00 min/mile pace (even including some waiting for Fonzie who appears similarly deconditioned). However, I was depressed by the subsequent significant stiffness I have noted in my feet and legs. I hope this resolves quickly.
Incidentally, the flight from Johannesburg to Atlanta is quite a significant journey encompassing 13,582 km and 16 hr 40 min. It was sufficiently long to prompt my curiosity about the longest available commercial flights. A bit of research revealed only two longer currently available flights, from Singapore to Newark (15,345 km) and Singapore to LA (14,114 km). While musing about the question during the flight, I had come to suspect that a London to Sydney commute would top the list. It appears that the distance is indeed longer (16,898 km), but there is no non-stop service available at present.
