Adventure Racing race 4:58:00 [4]

ESAR with Bent and Shed Man.

I was a little nervous going into this knowing how fast my teammates would be and the drop off in some of my training of late. Somehow I drew the short straw and had to do the first run section before we all started biking. Should have left my pack with the team. Came in with my heart rate spiking worried I wouldn't be able to recover as Shed took off on the bike. Overall I felt like I held my own. Definitely was struggling a bit mid way through the advanced checkpoints, but just grabbed some gels and kept plugging away and either they slowed down, or I came back.

Had a great time out there and was so glad I agreed to do the race. Lots of great AR biking which was awesome on such a hot day.

I think it has been something like 6 weeks since I did this last. Definitely felt like I took a step backwards.

I have to do a presentation tomorrow on Team Leadership. Came across this clip from the old Eco Challenges. I'd forgotton all about this. There are things that have happened to our team in a race that I always thought demonstrated team work (like trekking through the night with only 3 head lamps or how my team got me as far as we did in Tasmania), but they all pale in comparison to this.
