Cycling race 6:00:00 [4]
8-hour race in Kingston. The race started ok for me, I found a steady pace and the first four laps I was about middle of the pack. This is how my 24 hour race went as I tended to catch more people as the race went on. Being only 8 hours I didn't know if I could expect the same or not. I definitely found the trails pretty tough to ride, there were basically no hills just a lot of deeply rooted single track. It was really hard to get any flow at all because you were constantly riding on roots. By about lap 6 I was feeling pretty tired, but I also knew it gets easier in the final 2 hours.
Anyways this ended for me as I was going out for lap number 8. Roughly 10 min into the lap I heard a loud pop and then my rear tire went flat. At first I thought I just had a flat and I was going about changing it. As I started to pump up the tire I realized that my flat was actually a tear in the tread so I had to walk it back to the car. I hadn't brought much with me in the way of replacement parts (just some extra tubes) so I decided with only 2 hours to go that I'd pack it in and call it a day. I was sitting in 6th at this point. If I'd been more competitive or it had been earlier in the race I'd have probably tried to borrow a spare tire, but it didn't seem worth it at this point in the race.
Overall had a great time and got a good ride in for the day, ended up riding 84k overall. I'd definitely consider going back to this race. Very low key, but still very well run.
