Running 45:00 [3]

Nice route from the office down to Bingaman's and back. Took all the side trails on the way down and a short cut on the way back to make it back to the office in time.

Running 40:00 [3]

Light run around Homer Watson with Pathetic. We slowed a bit at the end when my body was nice enough to inform me how much I needed food in it.

Also picking up some of the controls we slowed a bit as the guy with the map was a useless boob and couldn't find the controls.

A bit of a test run on the calf to see how it felt. Some tightness, but noticeable improvement.

Note

Just received a long email from the race director for the Cayuga Trails 50. In the middle of the email is this small note:

"For those of you following our occasional Facebook updates you're aware that course run-through's with different mapping programs (Garmin and NASA based numbers) have yielded an increase in the elevation profile of the course. My mapping software (National Geographic Topo has time and again shown an elevation gain of about 6,500 ft (with corresponding loss). The (most likely more accurate) Garmin/NASA figures are putting it closer to 10,000 feet."

Surprise.

Cycling 3:35:00 [3]

So my calf is still bugging me so I decided to replace the planned long run today with a long ride. Nice afternoon to be out riding in the country, although the head wind I had half the time wasn't the best.

Cycling 1:40:00 [3]

Ride out to Elmira and back before work. Tough head wind the whole way out and then some freezing rain pellets on the way home just to mix it up.

Harper must be getting ready to return to Ontario as the nice sunny weather from earlier this week was replaced with cold crap today.

Nice muddy run along the grand river to Bingeman's and back. Took all the best trails on the way out and ran the main trail on the way home.
12 PM

Strength 40:00 [1]

I joined to colleges from work for a leg specific weight workout. Their workout consisted of a series of squats, lunges and dead lifts. I haven't done something like this in a while and definitely felt tough, but also good.

Running 20:00 [3] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

They finish of their weights with a 20 min run. Near the end my calf was tightening up again.

Running race 5:59:39 [4]

I decided to try the 6 hour Tread run today at Mansfield. I wasn't sure what to expect with my body. I still have sore achy body parts from Tierra Viva. On the first lap I was surprised to find out I was the first solo runner through. Someone caught up to me and I thought "ah here comes the fast people". However, after climbing up the escarpment the second I had gapped him and continued to pull away. Ended up running 9 laps (6.5km per lap) and finished first solo male. Body felt pretty good afterall, although I was getting tired around lap7.

Lap Times:
36:42
37:37
38:57
40:00
40:02
41:02
41:07

Cycling 30:00 [2]

Putting out the final controls for today's race. Took the cyclocross bike out including some riding in Breithaupt, which I always find so fun.

I had no idea what to expect today when I decided to put an adventure race on to celebrate Aubrey's first birthday. Teams consisted of seasoned adventure racers, friends with different levels of fitness and my family including Aubrey's grandparents. Leading up to the race I'm pretty sure most of the family wished they could drop out as they were nervous about how hard it would be.

In the end I think everyone had a lot of fun, including the grandparents.

I will definitely have to re-think the handicaps for next year. Any team that had someone under 3 on it was able to double the score. This meant that Mick cleaned up. He would have been in the top 3 had he not gotten the handicap, but with the handicap he won by 700 points. It was incredible to watch him pull his son John around for 2.5 hours in the bike carrier and backpack. At one point there was 2 options for leaving Bechtel park, you could either go around on the road or you could cut across the grassy/muddy trails, guess which one Mick took?

Thanks everyone for coming and making the day so much fun.

Running 1:20:00 [3]

Out setting some controls for Aubrey's birthday party. I was pretty muddy and wet when I got home, I would have thought the stream crossing would have cleaned more of the mud off than it did.
8 AM

Cycling 10:00 [1]

First day for me to take Aubrey to day care. So rather then just sticking her in the car and driving her I got up early (5:30) to fit in my run and then get the bike chariot all ready to go. After dropping her off and then dropping the chariot off I continued on to work. Then Kristen called to inform me that she didn't have her car keys (I had locked them in the trunk of the Subraru) and she needed to move the cars for the workmen who had arrived. So back home again and then back to work.

Oh well, I still consider this to be a success.
