Goal was to run the same route I did last Saturday, but not long into the run I could tell my legs where still tired. I decided to turn around at 90 min rather then get stuck all the way out in Hamilton.

Aubrey's showing her adventure racing side today. Even though it was -1 this morning we still had to ride our bikes to day care. Aubrey was nice and warm because she was working hard. On the other hand I was rather cold because I wasn't wearing enough layers and we were moving pretty slow.

Thought I wasn't going to be able to fit this in today after being caught off guard and ending up in an all day meeting. It ended early so I was able to get my workout in before heading to ARK.

Well I made it.

Ran along the Bruce from Guelph line to Dundas and back. My plan was when I got to Dundas to find a convienence store and buy some water for the return trip.

Starting out my legs felt tired so I tried to take it easy, but I was eating a lot of food. Arrived in Dundas in 2:50, found a store and bought water, a coke and a tone of snacks. Started back, but was feeling tired. At about the 4 hour mark i felt really worn out so took some time to walk and ate about 600 calories. I struggled from there, but things got worst in the last 4 or 5 km because I was out of water, I hadn't even drunk all my bladder on the way there. In the end, I ended up walking a fair bit of the last few km, thus the slow time after the turn around. This was a good route with lots of climbs and some good distance. I will probably do the same route next week.

Note

Proud poppa moment this morning when Aubrey rode her bike all the way to daycare. She's has a push bike that I bought for her when she turned 2 and she has refused to touch it until 1.5 weeks ago and all of a sudden she loves riding it. So I agreed to let her ride it to day care. It's about 1.5 km and luckily mostly down hill. I figured we'd get half way and she'd be tired/bored from the ride and want to stop, but she never showed any sign of stopping, well except when there were pretty flowers she needed to show to me along the way.

I got up early this morning to do a TRX workout, but got delayed starting taking care of some stuff around the house. Sure enough 1 min after I started the workout Aubrey appeared out of her room because she needed something. I tried to convince her to go back to bed, but she wasn't buying it. Workout over.

So worked out at lunch in the gym instead.

Orienteering race 3:56:33 [4]

Raid the Rib with Captain Awesome and Audrey. Good race overall, made one mistake in Albion early on, but we recovered and then could have picked a better route coming back into Albion. It was a lot of fun to run with a second navigator. Usually I'm the only one navigating the race so it was nice because we caught each other's slight bobbles (although there were only a few of them the whole race).

Audrey's been sick since Stars WAR and hasn't really been able to train at all since then so after 2 hours she was really starting to feel the lack of training. We worked together and towed her into the finish, which is probably the longest I've ever towed someone. I was feeling pretty wrecked after that.

Congrats to DD who was able to clear the course. Running on the road out to Palgrave it was clear they were the faster team and we had to hope they made some mistakes, which obviously they didn't.

Kristen decided she wasn't going to the gym this morning so I got permission to go out for an early run as long as I was home by 7. Used the opportunity to run on the Grand trail pulling my new friend.

Also wore my micro spikes on the trail. Given how dark it was out I couldn't actually tell if I needed these or not, but given the dusting on the ground and the fact it was still dark out for most of the run I didn't want to risk it.

Run along the Grand River. Some parts are icy, some snow covered and others have already melted. Stopped just short of Kolb park when the whole trail was flooded over. Started to snow on the way home which would make the run a great winter run, but then you realize it's spring right now.

My back is feeling better today, but it also feels like the muscle is sore and weak almost like after you hurt it, but it doesn't feel hurt. So I was careful about what I did and how much weight I lifted. At one point during dead lifts the back felt sore coming up, so I decided to stop on that exercise.

On the trainer before Aubrey woke up this morning. I have an appnt with an Osteopath later today to see if they can help identify the issues with my back. Fingers crossed she can help out.

Missed my morning run this morning as I spent the whole morning shoveling snow. So I skipped out on my weekly lunch group to get a workout in instead.

Treadmill hill workout

1 mile warm-up
1 mile 5% incline
.5 mile 0% and at a faster speed (recovery/downhill)
1 mile hill started at 5% and increased the incline every 1/4 mile by 1%
.5 mile 0% and faster
.5 mile at 15%

I think this was a good workout as I felt like throwing up by the end.

My head wasn't into a long run today so that combined with the cold conditions and snow/ice on the trail I decided to just bail after 30 min and turn around for home. I was only intending to do a 3 hour run today (have been building up the last 3 weeks and wanted to give my body a chance to recover a bit this week), so it's not the end of the world to skip out this weekend.

Note

Family hike at the hydro cut (although we stuck to the multi-use trail). Aubrey made it about half way around and then we put her in the carrier. I also tried out my system that I built for pulling a tire as a run. Although now it's supposed to snow so we'll see when I get to use it.
