Cycling intervals 1:00:00 [3]

In Montreal until Wednesday for work. Was able to get in a ride on the trainer at the gym in the hotel. Used the preprogrammed intervals to try and get something of a workout in.

Note
(rest day)

Knee is bugging me a bit. Need to really focus on more stretching, getting lazy since CARA. Hopefully this week can be a 11/12 hr week.

Cycling 1:40:00 [3]

Had wanted to go for a long ride up to highway 9 today, but pulling out of Toronto I got a flat. Didn't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere without a second tube so decided to make it a shorter ride today.

Cycling warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Cycling race 45:00 [5]

Good race tonight. Had someone just in front of me and someone on my tail. Actually tried to drop him during the second lap and it worked. Kind of fun to actually try using race tactics instead of just riding as fast as I can for 45 minutes.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Warm up and down.

Running intervals 35:00 [4]

Intervals. 5 x 7 min on and 2 min recovery. Felt really tired from yesterdays ride, didn't feel like I was moving very fast at all. With the heat today decided to walk the recovery so I didn't over heat.

Cycling 40:00 [2]

And I ended the week with a nice light ride up to my Grandma's place to help her with her computer.

Cycling long 4:30:00 [3]

Today we played tried to answer the questions road or mountain bike? So myself and my Sport Swap twin headed up to Albion Hills to do a few laps of the Summer Soltice course (which I have to say is really easy this year). After 2 laps of the course we then headed out onto the road and started the ride home. Highway 50 to Major Mackenzie to Weston road. At Finch my twin turned to head back to his place and I continued until the Humber trail started and road that back to out place.

I don't know if we did ever sort out road vs mountain, but we had a lot of fun.

So this got me thinking about another ride I'm think I should try. Start at my place and ride up to Highway 9. I think we could do some of this on the humber valley trail. Then take Highway 9 west until it meets with the rail trail. Rail trail to Terra Cotta and then either trail ride on the Scott's farm trail or just continue to my parents place. Either way it all ends in Georgetown at my parents place.

Anyone interested?

Stretches for my legs this morning.

Cycling warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Warmup before the race.

Cycling race 45:55 [4]

Race #2 at Durham Forest. Iceman put together a very fun course with a good series of climbs and single track. Overall I'm happy with the race seeing how my legs have been really sore all week. 3rd overall, 1st in my category.

Cycling tempo 1:40:00 [3]

Ride into work. Was a bit surprised when I turned onto Cummer and found that all the pavement has been removed to resurface the road. I'm going to need to find a new way home.

Cycling 45:00 [3]

Ride home, no I didn't suddenly get faster. Ended up hitting a pothole pretty hard, which knocked my water bottle off the bike. My luck the bottle gets itself wedged inbetween my rear wheel and the frame so in less then 20 s I had 2 broken spokes and a very wobbly wheel. Decided at this point to call Kristen to come and get me rather then do anymore damage to the wheel.

Cycling warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Warmup before the race.

Cycling race 20:00 [3]

Wasn't feeling great yesterday so I only ended up doing one lap of the bike race. Sortof left some of my lunch out on the course, so I decided to wrap it up and go home instead of killing myself.

Adventure Racing 4:20:00 [5]

Stage #3
We decided after the disappointment of stage 2 we had to come back and race the final stage. We'd paid the money so why not come enjoy it. This race involved navigating using a old black and white aerial photo of Timmons to navigate a 42 k course. This was interesting as I'd find that things I thought were roads turned out some times to be rail roads tracks or hydro lines.

We biked up to Hershey lake and dropped the bike to hit 3 orienteering points. Then we got back on the bikes and did 5 more points on the bike. Then a bike around the top of Timmons and down to the gold mine tour. This was pretty fun as we pulled into the mine and had to go underground to get four more points. You can imagine 4 people stumbling around underground in our race clothes and rubber boots looking for the checkpoints. Pop up and then a quick bike ride to the finish.

The end of the day felt amazing. Sure we hadn't finished stage 2, but we pulled off a second place in this final stage and that helped us feel a bit better about the whole week. Overall the most amazing adventure I've been on to date and already on the ride home Eddie, Tyson and myself are talking about the next one we're going to be doing.
