Biked over to the shop to get an adjustment on the bike, then over to Crocheron park on the Long Island Sound, then back towards home: http://goo.gl/maps/DJIDZ. Beautiful weather today. Mom was taking a walk along the water, I got off the bike and walked back home with her when I saw her.

The weather has gotten warmer here in New York, so I had the local bike shop re-assemble my bike (before this, the bike was packed in a box ever since I had brought it with me from California back in the fall). Had a nice ride back home from the bike shop after that.

Day 2 of the West Point A-meet. The physical difficulty (length and climb) of the course were comparable to yesterday's. My time and my amount of navigational error were also similar to yesterday's. Altogether, this is a sign that I was performing at the same level as yesterday. This, in turn, is a sign that I was probably moving precisely as fast as my navigational ability and physical shape could allow me on both days.

The reason I see the same level of performance on the two days as a sign that I was going at exactly the right pace is the following. If I had been going too fast on the first day (and tried to maintain the same pace on the second day), I would have gotten more lost on the second day. If I had been going too slow on the first day, I would have gotten less lost and would have been physically faster on the second day.
