redemption! ran the whole blue course in barely more time than the one-two mispunch/fugue from last year. beat tp for the first time in the process, and came as close to coach as i ever have - 22s. magnus and bo were out of reach though... this time.

competitiveness aside, i'm happy with the race. few minor bobbles and two major ones:

2) minor bobble, it-should-be-here alarm went off too soon
4) microbobble, inaccurate near the flag
8) microbobble, it-should-be-here alarm went off too soon, again
9) bobble, tried to rely on contours, failed.
10) microbobble, got confused by the trail to the north
15) minor bobble, it-should-be-here alarm went off too soon, again, again
16) mega-bobble. drifted uphill, confused by bald rock patch. made the same mistake last year, i think.
17) microbobble, bad aim
19) mega-bobble. let my guard down on the runaround, tried to contour it, failed. again.

certainly left 57s out there to break the 1hr barrier.

color-coded splits thing

and a QR

got ticked. might've been via the dog, can't necessarily blame o. max 12hrs embedded.

and registered for the traverse

Orienteering 10:00 [0] 3.14 km (3:11 / km) +101ft 3:02 / km
spiked:4/5c

course setting. reduced time on account o' mostly walkin'. stole dan's garmin for the day.

west side of the course didn't show much storm damage, but the far east side was a war zone. giant-sized jungle gym of downed trees. one partially fallen one had the bark blown out in continous strips - like a finger trap toy. or like the way trees blew up in Return of the Jedi. yep. that's the thing it made me think of.

Orienteering 31:50 [4] 4.58 km (6:57 / km) +212ft 6:29 / km
spiked:10/11c

magnus's sprint 2 - decent, certainly a few errors. almost got TP. some day. compass exploded after 7. educational to learn how much more i could pay attention to bearing when i had to. the little retaining wire holding the capsule in the Moscompass popped out, but i was lucky enough to find the tiny brown wire in the leaves. better break than the SI stick last month, for sure.

5) missed a leafy turn (1:30).
6) slow through rough terrain. tried to fix compass (1:00)
10) way conservative on route choice. worried about shooting across a leafy trail. (1:20)
10 AM

Orienteering 1:09:56 [0] 3.2 km (21:53 / km) +105ft 20:50 / km
spiked:11/12c

walking sprint1 with the folks. they're catching on, i didn't point out a single flag. plenty of leading the witnesses on route choice, though. actually a lot of fun for me too - quite a bit to learn orienteering at a walk, and i wouldn't have the self restraint to walk myself. still, even at said walk, i bungled the dense clumpy trail network at 3, though. allegedly there was a run near it, but the leaf covering made for the braille equivalent of orienteering.
