Cycling 40:00 [3] 9.0 mi (4:27 / mi)

to work, to kendall, to home
7 AM

Running 29:24 intensity: (5 @0) + (2 @1) + (8 @2) + (4:28 @3) + (24:41 @4) 5.32 km (5:31 / km) +148ft 5:18 / km
ahr:163 max:178

Tried heeding Ian's advice about taking it down a notch. Goal was to keep HR in the mid 160s, and pretty much did it, except for one lapse in focus. Definitely felt more sustainable, but going slow makes me sad. As does getting passed.

Orienteering 26:43 intensity: (1 @0) + (6 @1) + (2 @2) + (4 @3) + (20:04 @4) + (6:26 @5) 3.59 km (7:26 / km) +355ft 6:28 / km

ugh, mispunched. 9 isn't 6. total gong show - ugly and slow. even bad at marking laps. beauty of a park, though. map wasn't perfect, but that wasn't the limiting factor. worst orienteering in recent memory

1- decent enough, larry ribbed me for just heading off in the direction i was pointing
2- went unnecessarily high, and then overshot it by 30m (20s)
3- decent, but should've gone straighter
4- bobbled one cliff early, caught by katia (20s)
5- right behind katia for an easy leg
6- wouldn't really know. i passed katia by mantling the 4ft wall, then promptly went in the wrong direction. this would be the first of four major mistakes katia would get a front seat for.
7- overran a little, but fine (10s)
8- didn't know which of the bonus rocks was the actual one, still did alright. (15s)
9- easy to find, it hadn't moved
10 - had the intention of at least finding 6, even if it was out of order. found 10 instead. a little slow and wandery near the mark (20s)
11 - confused by the bonus green. found it just in time to gift-wrap it for katia (50s)
12 - went too low, got a little wandery. (20s)
13 - booked it out of 12 on a shitty bearing trying to put some distance on katia. had myself rotated about 90 degrees and on the different road. second textbook counterexample for katia. after crossing the road i had it dialed and put in a good leg, though (15s)
14 - took the straightline hero route, got to watch katia take the smarter contour out of the corner of my eye. still put a little time on katia, though
15 - really dogging it up the hill, got caught at the top (5s)
16 - too pooped to even keep trucking down the hill, easy control though (5s)
F - and on in.

Running? Again? Soon my cover as Ben will be blown. Feeling way better than I thought I would after climbing last night. Lungs took half a mile to get their lung-head in the game, but everything else felt fine. Little nearly-getting-run-over adrenaline helped stop the post-stoplight decay.

The dude at city sports said i had a neutral gait, but i very definitely land on the outer edge and roll in. he also said my arches don't collapse at all - but i'll believe him there, because it sounds complimentary.

i'm gonna try to time my resting recovery - just paying attention to how long it takes my heart rate to drop below 100bpm after i finish. today was 3:15

and if any pet owners read this, do your critters lick you when you're sweaty? or is this monster being a salt freak? He just got the back of my knee.

Climbing (Gym) 2:30:00 [3]

the four-fecta: bouldering, toproping, leading, and slacklining. felt solid bouldering. finally aced that anomalous V2. toproping was acceptable. kicked ass leading - cleaned a hard 9, and (tactically) one-hung the stout 5.10a (b?) centerpiece in the supercave. really pleased with my clipping, for once. was in the zone slacklining, even got a full backwards traverse.

Cycling 40:00 [3] 7.5 km (5:20 / km)

Look at Johnny Fitness over here, biking to work (and back) after running. Well, biking, and walking a mile with a flat rear to the delightfully musical accompaniment of steel clips on pavement. delectable.

a little confused at feeling gassed towards the end of the run, but right as rain 30 minutes later for the bike right. go figure
7 AM

Running 20:36 intensity: (12 @1) + (9 @2) + (35 @3) + (15:04 @4) + (4:36 @5) 4.26 km (4:50 / km) +66ft 4:43 / km
ahr:176 max:185

honest-to-goodness running. as in: going out with the purpose to run, and not just sweatily getting somewhere that i have a pressing need to be. inspired by a friend about making better use of mornings. hope to do this three times a week, weather permitting

nailed the primary goal of keeping a steady pace and not stopping to suck wind. crushed my secondary goal of taking less than 30min. unfortunately, ate a lot of my room for improvement in the process. two sub 8:00's was thoroughly unexpected. nice to know i'm faster than high school sophomore ben.

lungs, right lower back, and right patellar tendon were least pleased with the new order. they will be punished accordingly.

outbound ben versus inbound ben, 20 minutes each. inbound ben totally had the W until he got screwed by traffic lights, thrice. granted, he had gravity too, but he warmed up way too much. the winner got to go watch the avengers afterwards
