Delighted Charlie drove since I'm still jet lagged. To Gay City to test myself (and particularly the right hip/leg) on a nominally 4.0 km Brown set by Jim and Rich.
Excellent weather but ferns everywhere hiding difficult rocks. Even the trails were gnarly and difficult to traverse. Very tough course, IMHO. No easy attack points on 4 and 5. Scads of boulders bigger than the cited feature on 4, where I relocated first to the trail to the west, then to the brook to north (to find the bend before turning south). After 5 finding controls was less of a problem but getting to them still was a slog through veg.
I was attacked twice by the same dog on the trail to 5. First when it was off leash as I was heading south, then again a few minutes later when I was backtracking to a bridge. The second time it was on leash but its owner made no effort to restrain him when he grabbed and pulled on my water bottle belted to the back of my waist. I scolded the owner for allowing the second attack and, while she did apologize, she seemed surprised that I was upset. @#$%!
My route. I can't explain the green spike west of the trail soon after finding 4 because I never went west of the trail there. GPS anomaly?
