Adventure Racing race 6:53:32 [3] 86.13 km (4:48 / km) +1269m 4:28 / km

Storm the Trent Haliburton.
Hammer had to drop out on Friday morning, so I pitched a nice day of Active Recovery to Goose, who had just done a massive run on the Killarney loop Tuesday. No hammerfest, no towing, just a nice jaunt in the woods.
Somehow he got packed and up to our place in under 6 hours.

We started on boats, and the “tired” Evinrude Doughty had us out front in no time. Nice paddle on glassy lakes. We shipped a ton of water from an oblivious motor boat, but still held a solid lead out of the boats.
Next up was a very easy trot to the bikes at Glebe park, where we got passed by Gally/DD, never to see them again as they headed for the win.

Onto the bikes, where Goose held a very sensible pace and was solid on the nav. We made up time in the mucky bits, and Goose seemed to get stronger on the climbs. One small nav error put us behind 2 teams but we made it up.
We hiked the first trek and were clean.

Back on the bikes, for a trip South to camp W and a longer trek. Thank goodness there was water at the CP in the heat. Goose was hiking this one strongly and I had to jog-hike. Again we were clean here. Feeling very good so far with a conservative pace.

Back on the bikes to the finish on a hilly route, and suddenly I was feeling low on power- despite the easy pace I had to be on stomach watch, while Goose found his wings and had to wait at the top of hills as I broke out the granny gear. It may have been the heat, or my lack of long training sessions.

We passed 3 other teams who were struggling more, and did the big climb to the finish at the lookout. The dreaded technical descent was quite recumbent-friendly.

Big props to Goose for just showing up, let alone finishing 3rd overall. He’s a beast.

Bash came in as first female solo, despite feeling sick and going in without too much training on bike or boat.

Thanks to Storm and Browner for putting on another excellent race. So much potential in this area for AR!

Running 45:00 [1]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Easy peasy jog/hike with the big boy. Too hot for him to run beside the bike. He got all riled up in the same spot as he escaped last time, but I was ready for him.

Commute with the big guy. Back on long line, and he passed the deer test again.
