Paddlng 1:30:00 [2]

More easy day tripping, hanging around camp reading in hammocks, swimming, throwing sticks for Adventuredog, and sunset paddles.

I like the quiet time at dawn when I'm the only one up, and the coffee is on.

Saturday Jul 30, 2016 #

Paddlng 2:00:00 [2]

Day trip paddling. So nice to be touring around, then back to the camp to watch Chef Timato construct biscuits or pizza from scratch, then go for a swim.

A+ conditions yet again.

Paddlng 3:15:00 [3]

Up to Algonquin with the Tiny clan (Timato, MsTiny and Teeny Tiny) along with Logan the Adventuredog and Bash all piled into the van.
We paddled from Rock Lake, and did the 3k portage to Lousia Lake. AD and Teeny were great on the portage, on their first trip.
Perfect weather- not too hot and very few bugs.

We paddled around Lousa until we found a campsite with a nice swimming rock. Turns out AD is the perfect canoe tripper dog. He leaps in and out of the boat like an antelope, is perfect in the boat, doesn't leave camp, doesn't steal food p, run off after animals or get into trouble, and is quiet as a mouse. He swims when you throw sticks, but otherwise is amazingly calm.

We went for a sunset cruise as well.

Running 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Easy run to work with AD. He was none to happy to be sprayed down pre-run, but was nice and cool on a hot day. We took some shady berry-picking breaks too. This is about the limit for the pooch unless there's some frequent swimming involved.

Easy trot home in the dusk. Cooler and less FDFs, but still a warm one. AD had a good swim.

Monday Jul 25, 2016 #

Cycling 53:00 [2]

Easy commute with AD. Muggy and buggy in the morning, hot but clear in the pm with tons of berries to be had.

Event: RockstAR

11 AM

Adventure Racing race 7:54:31 [3] 50.46 km (9:24 / km) +580m 8:54 / km

RockstAR with Bash.
Hot weather forecast, and a modified bike section due to a bridge out.
Bash and I started easy on the hot road run to start, and did the bike in a different sequence to avoid traffic on the Lakota trail ride.
The new Kodiak 'bent rode very nicely on its first race.

P1520732

Bash had a thoughtful, strategic plan for the day. We started with the underwater CP, which Bash did due to my ear problem. Next, the tricky but valuable Southwest section while we were fresh. The trails were virtually non-existent so it was a true AR bushwhack, and even with Bash's precision nav it was slower going than expected. Hot and full of deerflies in spots, but some ponds to splash in.

Next we paddled to the SUP, trailbuilding and inner-tube controls, then back to the hub for mandatory 5-7hr check-in before paddling up to the North end with the clock running.

We knocked off controls pretty well, as the North end was much easier going, and with some impressive pinpoint Bash nav to 50.
There was one last 70 point control we thought we could narrowly get, but we had to run fast on tow and hammer back to HQ with 5 min to spare.

We ended up with 1400 points, good enough for the co-ed win, and 70 behind the overall winners.
In hindsight, 1470 would have been reachable if we'd known how slow the SW was and chose other areas.

Great to race with Bash, with great planning, excellent nav and strong pace.
I was happy to be able to eat throughout the race, finished feeling great, hungry and with a lot of gas left in the tank despite the hammerfest at the end. What a change from ultras!

The race was well run by Storm of course. Great to see the Gally clan blow away the 4 hour course, including an overall win by the Gally boys in the adult category and a female win by the Gally Girls!

Cycling 52:00 [3]

Good cool ride to work with AD on the Rollercoaster and singletrack, and easy back.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Rehab and workout 1 plus some extras watching the first part of the Tour. (No spoilers please)

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Rode the biggest hills around the 'hood, and did some tempo on less steep ones. Also cherry-picked parts of Salty Steven Singletrack backwards.

Monday Jul 18, 2016 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Run to work with AD, and a constant barrage of FDFs.
Bit better on the way home with less humidity.

Sunday Jul 17, 2016 #

Running 40:00 [2]

Easy jog with BGY and Rachel, and dogs AD and Quinn, with lots of stops for berries and views.

Saturday Jul 16, 2016 #

10 AM

Cycling 1:18:54 [3] 20.81 km (15.8 kph) +209m

Ride with Goose down the rail trail to Inglewood, then up the escarpment for some exploration of various new-to-us trails, then to Belfountain for lunch.
I love finding new trails! These were mostly nice doubletrack.
Goose earned the King of the Mountain jersey on the Grange hill.
12 PM

Cycling 1:24:50 [3] 21.88 km (15.5 kph) +95m

Ride back. We found more new-to-us trails, this time rocky singletrack which was a good test for the Kodiak's repairs. Did I mention I love finding new trails? Decent pace on the rail trail. Very mixed surfaces today, great weather and no bugs.

Friday Jul 15, 2016 #

8 AM

Running 2:58:52 [3] 23.17 km (7:43 / km) +877m 6:30 / km

Cycling 45:00 [3]

Quick tour of Palgrave with Bash while it was only hot, before it got stifling.
I meant to do a longer ride earlier, but had to coordinate with staff health issues etc.

Strength 35:00 [2]

Workout 3 and some rehab.

Tuesday Jul 12, 2016 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Quick run to work, and easy back in the steaming heat, with stops to pick berries. Too hot for dogs.

Monday Jul 11, 2016 #

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Bike in with AD via singleatrack and up the rollercoaster hills in the cool morning, then a slow spin back in the heat later.

Sunday Jul 10, 2016 #

Paddlng 1:24:00 [2]

Bash and I took Adventuredog for his debut canoe paddle on Lake Bellwood.
AD was great in the boat, once we lowered him in. Lake Bellwood is a nice big lake, but is like a road ride- it's full of jet skis and waterski boats.
7 AM

Cycling 2:34:41 intensity: (14:21 @0) + (2:09:14 @1) + (6:40 @2) + (4:26 @3) 40.24 km (15.6 kph) +179m
ahr:110 max:144

Joined Veinbuster for part of his Tour de Pierre daily ride. I got the full tour of his local trails, some paved doubletrack, some gravel, some singletrack and even a little AR- type muck at the North end.

Very nice way to start the morning.

Saturday Jul 9, 2016 #

8 AM

Running 2:00:42 [3] 18.25 km (6:37 / km) +658m 5:36 / km

Nice run with Adventuredog from Innis Lake through the Dingle and Haffy to the sidetrail North of 9. Route chosen to optimise swims for AD. He had 5 full immersions, and stops for drinks at 3 other creeks.
Felt so nice to just go and run, uphills and down. No holding back or pole-hiking up.

Friday Jul 8, 2016 #

Strength 40:00 [2]

Part of workout 2 and rehab

Thursday Jul 7, 2016 #

Strength 30:00 [2]

The rest of the workout I missed yesterday.

Wednesday Jul 6, 2016 #

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Nice ride down to Albion and around my favourite sections.

Note

Bazingadog and I took an early morning walk and found the site of last night's late and loud turkey dinner for coyotes, on which our boys commented loudly at the time.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Part of workout 1 and some rehab.

Tuesday Jul 5, 2016 #

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Quick run on the rollercoaster trail to work with AD. Too hot for the pooch in the afternoon so we got a ride in.

Monday Jul 4, 2016 #

Cycling 45:00 [2]

Easy commute with AD.

Friday Jul 1, 2016 #

7 AM

Running 23:00 [3] 4.53 km (5:05 / km) +12m 5:01 / km
shoes: New Balance 1210v2

Up for an early lap on the path atop the wall around the nice quiet Lucca, after yesterday's busy trip around Florence.
11 AM

Cycling 2:09:28 [3] 27.93 km (12.9 kph) +12m

Rented bikes and rode the Tuscan countryside out to Pisa.
Bit of a hassle getting out of town but it was nice on the open road.
Also tootled around Pisa on bikes, and did a lap of the wall for some car-free riding.

3 PM

Cycling 25:12 [1] 5.83 km (13.9 kph)
