Out for a nice ride around Palgrave East and West, once I got my pile of errands done. Had to carry my bike over a narrow log across the new drainage ditch they've put in.

Gorgeous sunny warm day, so off to Albion in shorts and short sleeves.
Bash and I got an anniversary GoPro camera, and I tried it out for the first time. I did the most technical loop 4 times to get different camera angles.

I hope it has audio, as a group of 8 fast guys in matching blue team jerseys saw me fly down a tricky bit and were cheering and yelling. I caught them again later on, but had the camera pointed backwards on the handlebars at that point so it won't be obvious.

I also got a good little crash on camera.

Might take me a while to figure out how to download, edit and upload it.

Note

As a dedicated dog owner, I sucked up my vegetarian preferences and cooked up a chicken carcass to make dog food for the hounds.
Afterwards I'd gone upstairs for about 2 minutes- enough time for Bazingadog to open the cupboard and eat all the bones out of the under-sink bucket before I had a chance to dump them in the garage bin. On vet's advice I gave him a bagel and cat hairball remedy to expedite things. Little bugger had shown he could get in there a bit yesterday, so I should have known.

He seems fine but I feel like crap.

Hounds needed an outing, so we went out and started taking down flags from the Palgrave O training session. Bazingadog's a good bushwhacker but it's hard with him on leash, so we did a fair bit of doubletrtack too.

Good quick run through Palgrave with Bulletdog. Had to detour- they're ripping up the trail as they re-naturalize the creek by taking out a beaver pond, using heavy machinery. It's the South-east-most pond on the trail that's roughly parallel to Hwy 50.

Note

Pounding down rain and very late leaving work (9:45PM) so we mooched a ride home, to Bulletdog's disappointment.

Commute went from dark to fantastic early morning sun slanting through red and orange hardwood. Took the singletrack route.
Bulletdog's feeling better, and was raring to go. Smart enough to cut some of the switchbacks too!

Run in and back with Bazingadog on leash. We saw a deer, and he would have taken off like a rocket if he wasn't on leash. As it is, he was flying chest-height in the air in frustration.

2hrs+ Nasty day for riding so I got most of the wood hauled and chopped. Some serious resistance by some knotty big logs made for a good workout. Only 1 load left.

First lap easier with both beasts, then left Brody the Bazingadog at home and bulletdog and I did a loop of Palgrave at a pretty good clip. Pushed it up the hills too.
As always, I can feel the knee.

Note- my LaSportiva Crosslite 2.0s have both got rips in the side of the toes, just behind the reinforced bit. Only about 25 hours on these shoes, and I really like them. Shoe-goo time.

Took the hounds out for a quicker run around the Chalevoix loop.
Bazingadog was actually lagging a bit at the end, (on leash) while Bulletdog kept up OK even after all the biking yesterday.
I need to get the little guy tired out so he'll be relaxed at work while Bash's away.

Note- knee is about 80%. The long run didn't destroy it.

To work with Bulletdog in the nice cool morning, then back via Red Dog and Salty Stephen singlettrack. Easier ride with a lighter pack as my laptop's in the shop. So lucky to have this kind of riding so close on a strangely warm fall day.

Knee sore during but not too bad , but ice and vitamin I after just in case.

Amazing fall colours but hot summer weather. Great to be out- see how it feels tomorrow, and if my theory about slower running causing less damage is true.

Working at race-pace, got up a good sweat. Only partially count the time.

Cycling 1:00:00 [4]

Bit short of time, but too nice a day not to take a spin around Albion. Where was this speed at the 24hr race? For some reason the big bent was really handling the twists and bumps well, with the bigger suspension and grippier Racing Ralph tubleless tires I put on for WT. Also, trails were perfect, dry but not loose. I even made it around the one remaining corner that almost always has foiled me this year.
First solid effort since WT.

Sun and singletrack in the fall leaves! Great ride down to Albion and around the Northern trails then to work. Took a good wipeout on one spot- I guess having a heavy pack strapped on the rack changes things.

Another Canadian sets the world record-

Bruce Gordon just biked unsupported around the world on his recumbent in 153 days, taking 10 days off the record (pending OK from the Guinness Records folks)

As he said in his understated way, not bad for a guy in his 50s. It's 29,000 km, so almost 200km/day *average*!!

We got the OK to run him gently on leash.

His very first commute. The little guy was pretty darn good on leash, but I had his collar really tight near the roads.

Bazinga would have taken off after the 2 deer we saw early in the commute for sure.
