Running (Quest for Phone) 30:00 [3]

Re-ran part of my route from yesterday before work, after discovering that my phone and favourite Salomon toque vanished from a "zippered" pocket during yesterday's orienteering on the Eliminator 3.

I found the hat, soon after some bush I got caught in yesterday, but didn't have time to fully re-trace the route. It'll be a few days before I get a chance, but I have it narrowed down. The hat was near cp 2. After that I went E,3,D,F with no luck, so I'm hoping it's between F-4-route home.

Running (Pole running) 1:30:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Testing the knee for GRR:

Ran down to Palgrave East with Bulletdog, then along the trails to the start of Eliminator loop 3, around the elite course and back via doubletrack. Lots of hills, some off-trail, good GRR simulation.

The verdict- even with the poles the knee was sore, and on one downhill I gave it a pretty good tweak. Definitely not up for 25km at race pace, even with poles. :(

I also feel bad I've left Bash and Hingo looking for a teammate this late.

Saturday Mar 27, 2010 #

Note

I'd intended to do the Hardrock with poles as a test for the GRR, but when we got home after the film festival T-dog had torn a nail half off and there was blood everywhere. Got her patched up last night and off to the vet today. She doesn't seem to mind the smartwool sock.

Strength (Home Gym) 30:00 [1]

Part of workout 3 that doesn't bug my shoulder, while keeping an eye on the pooch. She seems fine after a quick vet visit.

Cycling 1:25:00 [3]

Quick first lap, then a good ride over to Palgrave East and all the heck over the 3 stages etc until it started to thaw. Made it up all the twistiest steepest bits that I rarely succeed on.

Running 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Once Bash got home I took Bulletdog out for a romp.
My knee was fine for the biking, but I can feel it a bit on the downhills running.
*Still* not sure if I can run GRR without wrecking myself for months after.

Hiking 1:20:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Brisk hike to Palgrave and back with Bash for Earth Hour pizza and campfire.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Frozen ground and bright sunshine made for fantastic conditions. Great ride on the big 'bent in Palgrave East and West, but I kept it short to avoid trashing my knee.
With the new mods & winter overhaul the bike rides like a dream!

7 AM

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Took the Omega to work, now that the trails are hard in the AM.
Man, I don't have biking legs! Granny-geared it up all the steeper hills, and walked a couple of ice patches. And this was all doubletrack.
5 PM

Cycling (Commute +) 40:00 [3]

Home via some bone-dry pine trails.
So-o-o good to be biking again.

Strength (Link +) 1:20:00 [2]

My leg and shoulder are up to a fairly easy Link workout, followed by some Hard Core and Bash's leg strength, as well as some extra arm work.

Running (Commute with Poles) 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon XT Wings

I ran the Eliminator #2 elite course, then a longer route through Palgrave West.

Man, some nasty debris around D, and a deep pit on the way from D to 3 that I couldn't see well on the map until I put it under my Scope later at work. Seriously!

( Am I going to have to run with 50lb operating microscopes now? )

There's no way I'd have made the top 8 if I was an elite.

The meniscus is feeling a lot better, and the MCL only hurts on the downhills. Poles definitely help.

Running (Commute with poles) 30:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon XT Wings

Easy run home under a brilliant half moon.

Running (Commute with Poles) 30:00 [2]
(injured)

Borrowed Bash's trekking poles and was able to jog-hike pretty well to work.

Strength (leg) 20:00 [1]

Bash's leg strength routine

Running (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Actually able to run almost everything on the way back home. The poles help a lot- knee wasn't too bad.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]

Collecting flags from the Eliminator course 1 with Bulletdog and misc bushwhacking.

Paddlng (erg) 30:00 [3]

At least I can still paddle while watching the 08 Giro stage 5-8.

Yoga 15:00 [1]

Rodney Yee with Bash. As soon as he got to Pigeon Lunge I was outa there.

Orienteering 30:00 [0]
(injured) shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

CN orienteering training (Easy walk pace 1:30). I went along with Jackie and her son Will for some coaching. Will was pretty keen until CP2, then got bored, but I think Mom got a lot out of it as we got about half way around.

Phats set a good course, even though he was the one to phlagrantly phlout the 11AM finish time.

Looking forward to running the whole course when I'm up to it.

Cycling (trainer) 1:00:00 [2]

Easy spin on the trainer watching a movie with Bash.
We bailed on our plan to bike to Inglewood due to the falling snow and my cold.

Strength (Leg) 30:00 [2]

The lovely Coach Bash's leg strength workout for knobbly knees.

Friday Mar 19, 2010 #

Cycling (trainer) 15:00 [1]
(injured)

Easy spin on the trainer, despite a good solid head cold.

Strength (Home Gym +) 45:00 [1]

Part of workout 2 and some core work.

Note- T of D was able to get some progress on the knee I think.

Wednesday Mar 17, 2010 #

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [1]

Workout 1- easy on the right shoulder stuff. Includes 15 minutes on the paddle erg.

Wish I was up for a long run today- it's gorgeous out.

Running (Commute) 1:10:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Ecco GTX + Screws

Kn-easy run to work and back.
I walked some downhills to spare the knee. Some open trail, but a lot of hard, shiny ice. Screw-shoes were mandatory, inadequate in places.
Knee felt it. No Thomass for me.

Saturday Mar 13, 2010 #

Snowshoeing 2:20:00 [2]

Up the mountain and in the other direction this time and down to the St. Morin hotel then back on the lake. More flawless blue sky and gorgeous hardwoods.

Friday Mar 12, 2010 #

XC Skiing (Classic) 2:15:00 [3]
(injured)

Classic ski at Camp Mercier with Bash and Knobless.
Was was great for the first half, then pretty useless for the second half, but another perfect bluebird day out.
Probably the last ski of the year though.

Thursday Mar 11, 2010 #

Snowshoeing 2:30:00 [3]
(injured)

Fairly epic outing with Bash and Bulletdog.
Lots of vertical on and off the great trails around lac Beauport.
Some nasty steep logging trail but mostly great hardwood bush in the mountains. Some solid crust, some soft snow.

Wednesday Mar 10, 2010 #

XC Skiing (Classic) 3:00:00 [3]
(injured)

Mont St. Anne.
Brilliant sunshine, tons of Soft snow.
I used spray klister which was great for about 5km per application.
I ventured off trail in my boots for a picture and sunk to my waist.
When the wax was good it was great- when it wore off the long herringbone or skate climbs were hard on my knee, but still worth it.
Clever Bash used her new RCS waxless skis.

Tuesday Mar 9, 2010 #

XC Skiing (Classic) 2:30:00 [3]

Details later- got to leave the wifi and pick up Knobless from his train.

Friday Mar 5, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Accumulating injuries- time for a couple of days off my knee, shoulder and neck.

Cycling (trainer) 50:00 [1]
(injured)

Doc Thumbs-of-death would rather have me spin easily on the trainer than sit on the couch.

Wednesday Mar 3, 2010 #

Strength (Home Gym) 45:00 [1]

Easy and limited workout #1- Avoided shoulder stuff, but did extra core.

Snowshoeing (Commute) 50:00 [1]
(injured)

Easy knee-sparing snowshoe in with Bulletdog.
So nice out, but I need to take it easy.

Tuesday Mar 2, 2010 #

Hiking (Commute) 30:00 [1]
(injured)

1:05 actual time

My knee's sore from the crash I took yesterday, so no ski for me. Back on the injured list for now.

Hiked home with the T-dog on the frozen trails, and met Crash and the frisky Skyerocket too.

Strength (Commute) 30:00 [3]

Yesterday's soft snow froze into rigid, boot-grabbing tracks in the early AM in some sections, others were OK. Some tricky crust.
I made it into town without incident, then wiped out walking on hidden glare ice on the sidewalk 10M from work, right on my @#% knee. I went out to sand the ice shortly after but it had all melted innocently away.

XC Skiing (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Careful ski back due to sore knee and icy/ breakable crust conditions as snow re-froze in the evening.

Bah. All this snow, but it's only ski-able during the warm part of the day
