Cycling 3:30:00 [2]

In New Zealand!
We rented bikes in Rotorura, and had a great ride amongst lush jungle and 3M diameter trees. Hard to ride singletrack while gaping your mouth wide open and gawking around. Excelent trails here, and we only explored part of them. I'm sure not used to a "regular" MTB. Ouch!

Cycling (Commute) 55:00 [2]

Brrrisk ride in the morning frost to work with Bulletdog.

Next we're off to NZ for 3 weeks.

Wednesday Oct 25, 2006 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:30:00 [2]

Workout #2, + moved the last 5 loads of firewood.

Running (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Run in with Bulletdog. T-dog's on the injured list right now- sore back leg.

Running (Commute) 55:00 [2]
shoes: Ecco Receptor - 07

Drizzly/ hail commute with bulletdog.

Orienteering 1:40:00 [2]
shoes: Montrail Hardrock

Setting out flags for the Novice and Advanced Score-o at Glen Haffy. For an extra challenge, as KS would say on the Hard Core DVD, I managed to lose the capsule out of my compass before the second control and did the whole thing without. Actually good practice.
I managed to find the capsule on the way back, after much searching. Didn't find the retaining clip though.

Orienteering race 1:27:00 [4]
shoes: Icebugs 2

Indian Summer Score-O. My legs were still sore from Friday night, but I had a good time on this one. I kept running into Tiny, who's navigating well on the fly.
Although I didn't make any big mistakes, my slow legs and out-of-practice nav had me skip 3 controls altogether.
Nice course!

Orienteering race (Sprint) 21:00 [4]

Although this was set up as an easy sprint, I still managed to run to 2 first as I wasn't used to the 1:5000. Otherwise a good run and a fun little course.

Orienteering (Control Pickup) 1:20:00 [1]
shoes: Icebugs 2

Went out to pick up controls. My legs were so slow and tired that I didn't run at all. Bash headed out to look for me as she was convinced I must be lying in a heap somewhere- she didn't realize that I went back to the car first to change and eat, so I started much later than she thought.

Misc 1:30:00 [2]

A few more hours of hauling and splitting logs. I was pretty tired afterwards.

Only logged 1/2, pun intended.

Friday Oct 20, 2006 #

Cycling (Commute) 54:00 [2]

Bike in with Bulletdog, who's flying in the cool weather.

Running race 38:22 [5] 9.0 km (4:16 / km)
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

Trek or Treat 9km night trail run.
A really fun event- lots of spooky music, volunteers in great costumes, excellent Hallowe'en theme, great prizing. Some of the people doing the 5km run were in excellent costumes. Something like 300 people overall.

I ran my HRM pretty much in low-mid zone 5. The Riddler (Rydlo) won overall in 32 minutes or so -no surprise there.

I *was* surprised to find out that I won the 40-49 category! My teammate 3Pin was second in our category, and Bash was second in hers!

They got some really nice Leki trekking poles, while I got another pair of Ecco shoes. (As Heather said- a guy who really doesn't need another pair of Ecco shoes after winning 2 straight before this)

Hey, I'm not complaining. I'd never heard of Ecco shoes before ESAR, but this last pair of trail shoes I won have been great. I did the Laurentian Rogaine in them without a single blister, even though Bash and many others had hamburger feet. They're light but supportive, and not too narrow in the waist or toe-box. The new ones I won are a little more rugged chassis for off-road, and I'll see how I like them.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Thursday Oct 19, 2006 #

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Ecco Receptor

Good run in with T-dog, who concentrates a lot better when I have dog treats in my pocket.

Wednesday Oct 18, 2006 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1. I'm back at my PB on a couple of exercises, and not far short on others. Guess I am more consistent after racing season's over, and the Lumberjack impersonation doesn't hurt.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Ecco Receptor

Nice run in to work with The Bulletdog. It was one of those good runs where your mind wanders and suddenly you're there already.

Note

Here's a much better video- singletrack in Palgrave with music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADqaQddIp-g

Comments welcome.

And there's a second one now, at
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IkOEeJg0G98

The second one is a faster singletrack with less log-overs.

Running (Commute) 40:00 [1]
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

Easy jog-hike with the T-dog setting the pace.

Strength (Core) 40:00 [2]

The dreaded Hard Core Conditioning DVD. Bash used a weight!

Monday Oct 16, 2006 #

Note

The recumbent helmetcam video's up on Youtube.
The first one is me going down and up stairs.http://youtube.com/watch?v=cNH7inTPNnw

The second's better- some singletrack, including me chasing some dude at Albion.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cp2SHCsUwj4

Running (Commute) 56:00 [2]
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

Commute to and fro with Bulletdog. I was going to bike but the forecast was wet- wrong.

Sunday Oct 15, 2006 #

Running 30:00 [2]

Ran both dogs around Short Bruce and a bit of Charlevoix.Bulletdog met her match in a young boxer.

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 3

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

I was fooling around with a helmetcam- attached my digicam to my helmet, just in case I don't look unusual enough already. I rode some of the Palgrave Red Dog singletrack, and went to Albion to get some faster flowing riding on film. If I ever figure out how to edit and compress it, I'll post it on Youtube or something.

Saturday Oct 14, 2006 #

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

Ran the Don Valley with Bulletdog.

Friday Oct 13, 2006 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #2

Misc 1:30:00 [2]

Way too windy for a ride or run in the woods, so I spent the time running 150kg wagons of logs to the back and heaving/ stacking/ splitting wood. A really nice thing to do among the snow, falling leaves and wind. Still about 1/2 tonne left.

Only logged 1/2, but it's definitely a level 2 or more.

Wednesday Oct 11, 2006 #

Strength (Misc) 1:00:00 [2]

Spent a while swinging my big splitter maul and hurling logs around. A lot more fun than being in my basement with the home gym, with the leaves falling around me.

Note

Racing season's over now, so I'm in baseline mode. I'm just doing what I feel like, and loving it.

Running (Commute) 40:00 [1]

Jog- hike to work with the supposedly tired and old T-dog.
She took off like a thunderbolt up a hill after something, and came back panting and a bit sore after some high-speed bushwhacking. Slower commute after that.

Tuesday Oct 10, 2006 #

Strength (Lumberjack!) 30:00 [2]

Ohhh I'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK...
It's that time of year- I have to haul a tonne or two of firewood. Today I slung a van-load from the pile at the office and dumped it back at home. I'll chop and pile tomorrow.
Only logged 1/2, pun intended.

Monday Oct 9, 2006 #

Running 2:00:00 [1]

Jogged the HVHT with both dogs. I thought this would be more of a hike, but T-dog kept up a good pace. If it wasn't for all the stops for river swims, it would have been a 2.
Another phenomenal hike in the fall colours. This weekend I've done the full tour of Eastern Caledon.

Strength (Core) 30:00 [2]

I didn't do the full core workout, but did some work for my left knee. I also moved another load of firewood, but didn't log it.

Sunday Oct 8, 2006 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Home Gym Workout 1

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]

I took a break from refinishing the kitchen counter to ride to Albion. Talk about spectacular! Colours just short of their peak, 17C and sunny. It was hard to keep an eye on the fallen leaves on the trails when I'm staring up with my mouth gaping open! Rode almost everything and back home.

Saturday Oct 7, 2006 #

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]

Hike in Kortright. We hiked for a few hours, but I'm only logging 1. I also started the annual firewood schlepp.

Friday Oct 6, 2006 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #3

Running 40:00 [1]

Hiked/ jogged the hounds around the Charlevoix trail.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Spectacular fall day! I just had to ride down to Glen Haffy through the Dingle and around.

Wednesday Oct 4, 2006 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #2

Running tempo 23:00 [4]
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

I didn't mean for this to be a level 4 workout, but my legs were feeling good, and I was surprised to see what I think is a PB to work on the long route without really trying. Where was all this power last weekend at the SAC?

Running (Commute) 24:00 [3]
shoes: Ecco Receptor 2

I took the shorter route home in the dark. Still reasonably quick.

Tuesday Oct 3, 2006 #

Running (Commute) 1:06:00 [1]

Easy jog/ hike with T-dog. Turned into a nice day after a nasty morning.
