Running (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Slower run to work on the shorter route to avoid mud.
About half the ice from yesterday has melted, but I definitely was glad of icebugs today. Robins are singing, but I doubt they can find worms yet!

Running (Commute) 31:00 [3]

Kept up a good pace to get home before Bash leaves for the Pig.

Paddlng warm up/down 45:00 [1]

Warm up and technique drills.

Paddlng intervals 45:00 [3]

Sets of 3'@70%, 3@80 and 1@90%. Bash seems to have had too much coffee this AM- maybe if I sneak in more decaf she'll slow down the cadence a bit at the 90% section!
Also went with Thumbs-of-Death, who picked it up really fast for his first session. Given that he's already very strong, he'll be a killer paddler.

Running intervals (commute) 28:00 [4]

Took the opportunity to do some hill sprints, since I had bulletdog with me.
Certain sections of the trails (mainly hills on well used sections in the forest) are much more icy than yesterday. Should have used my icebugs. Even b-dog went sliding.

Cycling (On trainer) 30:00 [3]

Got in some time before work, as I had to drive in today.

Running (Commute) 36:00 [2]

Run home with T-dog. Conditions varied again- the open fields and southen slopes are starting to dry up, the construction road was nearly impassible, the ski trails are fairly firm, and in places in the bush the snow's still knee-deep.

Monday Mar 28, 2005 #

Strength (Weights) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout on home gym

Running long 3:10:00 [2]

Ran to and around Albion Hills with Bash.
Various terrain, from deep snow to ski trails to dry ground, to glare ice sections where Bash was gracefull as a deer in her Icebugs (with carbide spikes) while I was more like Bambi on ice.

Running race (Sprint O) 34:00 [5]

Sprint O-race. I got extra training in by making a huge nav error and getting the pleasure of lots of extra climbing.
Definitely a 5/5! Excellent course, even if I messed up.

Running race (Orienteering) 1:15:00 [4]

Score-O. I really liked this course. Nav less intense, more running and more time between CPs to think a tiny bit. Also a better distance for me. Ran it with 3Pin, who I kep bumping into anyway. Less crazy pace than the Sprint, which pretty much baked my legs before this race. Great race, even if we mistimed the finish by a couple of minutes.

Orienteering (O-school) 1:45:00 [2]

Did the O-school with Bash. We got out there before JT had the first flags up, so we used the time to think carefully about the nav. I wish we had more time to do the whole course, but we had places to be. Great terrain, great course, gorgeous day, and it was really good to navigate thoughtfully at a reasonable pace for a change.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Took extra time for warmups and cooldowns. I needed it!

Strength (Weights) 1:00:00 [2]

Weights on Bill C's machine.

Thursday Mar 24, 2005 #

XC Skiing (Commute) 35:00 [3]

Each time I think I should put away my skis, we get more snow! 4cm of fresh powder over the old crust made for a nice quick ski- even had time to throw in a couple more hills.
Maybe we'll keep skiing right though until next fall, and I don't have to take up running again.
I should really be running now, or I'll get my butt kicked this weekend but couldn't resist one last ski.

Running 35:00 [3]

Run to work with the dogs. Much better footing today as the muck was frozen.Didn't need sealskinz this time.
I think T-dog needs a rest day tomorrow, but Bulletdog's barely warmed up.

Strength (Home Gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Usual weight workout (I didn't include yesterday's core and balance board time) I think biking hard first leads to a worse weight workout- next time I'll just warm up on the bike, do the weights then have a full bike session.

Cycling (On trainer) 30:00 [2]

Easy ride with a couple of hard intervals.

Tuesday Mar 22, 2005 #

Cycling (trainer) 50:00 [2]

Moderate rides before and after work

Running 35:00 [3]

Ran from work- tried to stay off trails and in the snow.
Bit of a slog where it's up to knee-deep in places. I also had a heck of a time getting around a construction site which seems to be made on pudding-thick mud this time of year. May need to find a new route during the thaw.

Monday Mar 21, 2005 #

XC Skiing 40:00 [2]

Skied to work- waxless skis were pigs today. Big clods of snow stuck to them, even with liquid glider Wish I had time to wax my other skis, but by this PM it'll be klister.
Still, any skiing this late in the season is great.

XC Skiing (commute) 35:00 [2]

Ski conditions varied from mostly surprisingly fast to taking off the skis and walking through 10cm of pudding-like mud to cross a road. Bullet-dog enjoyed the romp.

Cycling (On trainer) 45:00 [3]

Used the new trainer- Rode fairly easily but sprinted commercials. Cruising along is fine, but HR's only 120BPM or so.
It seems like I'm working really hard in the sprints but the HRs aren't all that high- in the 150-160 range, below lactate threshold. Probably something to do with lack of cooling. Sweating buckets, wearing a sweatband and mopping up with a towel barely adequate.

Strength (Weights + Core) 1:00:00 [1]

Workout on home machine + Core & Balance

XC Skiing 45:00 [3]

Skied with Bash and the beasts. Ran on skis up all the hills we could find.

XC Skiing 40:00 [2]

Skiing with Bash and the beasts- slower part.

Saturday Mar 19, 2005 #

Hiking 40:00 [1]
(rest day)

Went for a hike with our guests, Etoile and Adventure Girl.
Snow's still pretty deep- the adventure run'll be hard work.

Friday Mar 18, 2005 #

Strength (Weights) 1:30:00 [2]

Core workout with Kendra, weights at Fitness Centre

Cycling (Trainer) 50:00 [4]
ahr:150 max:168

Recumbent trainer at fitness centre- intervals.
Worked hard on the "climbs" as I had the machine set to the highest level for those and eased off for the "descents", but I suspect it doesn't compare to riding outdoors.

Thursday Mar 17, 2005 #

XC Skiing (Classic- commute) 1:20:00 [3]

Ski to work was nice. On the ski home on the long loop I had bricks of snow glued to my skis- hard slow slog.

Wednesday Mar 16, 2005 #

Ran extra hills on my commute with the bullet-dog

Tuesday Mar 15, 2005 #

Running 35:00 [4]

Ran from work with T-dog, who gave me a surprising run for my money on the hills.

Monday Mar 14, 2005 #

Taking it easy after the race on the weekend- skied to work and back

Sunday Mar 13, 2005 #
