Note
(sick)

Ugh. Still sniffy and sneezy, but also legs feel tired and sore. Drove to work!

Hiking 45:00 [1]
(sick)

Foothab, kneehab, some stretching and an easy walk to work. Sniff, snork, sneeze snivel.

Note
(sick)

Argh, gorgeous weather but too sick to run or bike. I should be doing speed intervals, not driving.

Hiking 40:00 [1]

Managed a hike home. Beautiful day, wish I felt better.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]
(sick)

Easy commute with bzdog the gentleman.
We had to rerouote due to more building on the Reddington section :(

Full on man-cold hit me mid day.

Running 3:01:57 [3] 23.7 km (7:41 / km) +1435m 5:54 / km
ahr:138 max:203 shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR

Great Hockley loop with BGY, Raps, the birthday Goose and 4-legged runners Quinn and Adventuredog.
Perfect spring day, greenery just popping up. AD was great on his longest run to date, even though he wouldn't put a toe in the water.

Heel got sore on the last 5K or so.

Cycling 2:15:00 [3]

First shot down to Albion Hills on a gorgeous day.

Trails mostly dry, and had the place almost to myself. Had to granny-gear the big hills with my feeble early-season legs.
Wild leeks and early flowers out finally.

Paddlng (Erg) 30:00 [3]

Spin on the erg.

Thursday Apr 23, 2015 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

2-dog run on the snowy trails of late April. AD frolicked along while the big guy was harnessed, and was no slouch. Got in a solid effort on the hill climbs on the return trip.

Wednesday Apr 22, 2015 #

Paddlng (erg) 30:00 [2]

Spin on the paddle trainer.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Short workout with some foothab, kneehab, cable presses and pull-ups.

Cycling 1:00:05 [3]

Woo hoo, trails are dry enough to ride. The big guy came with me, and AD's displeasure at staying behind was ear-splitting.

BZdog ran ahead for the first 20 min, by my side for the next 20, but dragged behind for the last 20 min even with 2 dips in the ponds.

Cycling 28:00 [3]

Night ride home. The big guy kept up nicely.

Tuesday Apr 21, 2015 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Run to work and back with AD. Dodged the storms and hauled a load of wood back in too.

Monday Apr 20, 2015 #

Running 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Run to work with some speed work on the Rollercoaster, and back via pond hill switchbacks. BZdog is so well behaved- I kinda miss his crazy days.

Saturday Apr 18, 2015 #

Running 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

(3hrs)
Run to Devil's Bridge with the ladies. I got in good speed /photographic intervals both down and uphill, and some nice plyo type rock steps at a run. Oh, and it was spectacular once again.

Cycling 3:00:00 [3]

Upright MTB.
Bike with the gang around Sedona in the Cathedral and Bell Rock areas. First time on an upright in years, and I was cowardly on the moderate downhill drops, leading with my head. The bike was solid and I got a bit bolder as the day went on, but I missed my 'bent and its ability to devour big drop-offs.
Gorgeous scenery, great trails and no crashes for me. Logie was flying down all sorts of big rocks, and the rest of us were a bit more cautious.

Sore neck at the end but totally worth it.

Organic wood-fired pizza and beer, then hot tub.

Hiking 5:08:00 [2]
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR

Grand Canyon with the gang. Pics on Bash's log coming soon.
Fun hike donw the S Kaibab trail, across the Tonto, down to Plateau Point and back up Bright Angel. Recommended time was over 12 hours for this route, but Bash and I just hiked it steadily with only a little jogging.

Canyon is always beautiful, but we've never been on the Tonto trail, which we had entirely to ourselves. Cactus are in bloom at that elevation, and it was pleasantly cool for a change. Several of the group had never been there, and it was fun to introduce it to them.

Heel was excellent on the descent, and I felt it a bit on the way up but with poles it was much better than I expected.

Big Mexican feast with gigantic margaritas at Javelinas, then back to the hot tub. Ahhh.

Running 3:00:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Easy hike/jog up Bear Mtn in Sedona with Bash, Dee, Logie, WandAR and the Gallys. Perfect Sedona hike, from desert and red rock with crazy formations to trees and whiter rock up top.
Heel wasn't all that happy but I am.

Place we are staying is amazing, and a swim, hot tub and BBQ after wasn't too shabby.

Monday Apr 13, 2015 #

Running 28:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Easy run in with the recovered BZdog. Only muck where the ice just melted!
Got a ride home as it was howling out.

Sunday Apr 12, 2015 #

Cycling 45:00 [2]

Woo hoo, finally an outdoor ride! Nice scoot down the rail trail with Bash, and we met Crash on the way back and rode with her for a tiny bit of her 6 hour ride. Trail was mostly dry finally.

Orienteering race 3:45:00 [4]
shoes: Fellcross 3

Raid the Rib with the Gallys.
Course had a main map and a Northeast and South map, both worth about 800-900 points. We headed up NE, figuring the road run and tougher nav with thicker bush would suit our skills. Gally was clean on the nav, but it was slow going through a lot of deadfall. We got back to the main map a bit later than we thought, and ended up leapfrogging the male team WTF a lot on the way back to the relay.

Ms Gally was a trooper, even though her bare shins took a huge beating, and she rolled an ankle pretty badly- twice. Gally was running strong I but couldn't tow or help Ms. G much except on the road and main trails, so she showed how tough she is.

Relay went fine, but I took my time on the "long easy" leg as it's such a tricky area. After that we had time to clean the main map, finishing by gambling on the crossing to the island CP near the finish. It turned out to be mostly frozen swamp, so it was fine and we got back with a few minutes to spare.
We tied WTF but they got us on time. Attack from Above was just behind us.

Bender/Hansel/Logie and the Foreigners came in late, but with a ton more points so they were 1-2 overall, then WTF and us.

In hindsight, we had time to grab one more 50 pointer from the South map without penalty, and could even have made another 100 pointer if we went into penalty time. We would still have been 2nd co-ed but 3rd overall. Or we could have lost everything if MsGally's ankle quit.

We worked well together. Gally is amazing at map reading and planning on the fly in terrible footing, and very fast in thick bush despite being so tall. MsG is a trooper, tough as nails, and we get along great in a race situation and all pace well together.

Note- heel and hamstring were getting sore by the end, but lots of icy water crossings helped. Hobbling a bit after the drive home.

Cycling 28:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Run in with AD. Got a lift home as it was nasty out.

Wednesday Apr 8, 2015 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 3, foot/knee/anklehab, kb and a little core.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Spin before taking BZdog to the vet. Poor guy's been puking, didn't want breakfast and his torn nail's still bugging him.

Looks like I'm driving to work so he can get his foot disinfected. He's on antibiotics now too.

Tuesday Apr 7, 2015 #

Running 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Run in with AD.
Threw in some speed and hill intervals as the ice and muck permitted.

Monday Apr 6, 2015 #

Running 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Glacier has receded enough to get by with snowcross.
Run to work with AD, then BGY and Raps joined us for a run home via the Charlevoix trails, on a warm spring afternoon.
Heel is no better after a week off, but it settles in after a bit.

Friday Apr 3, 2015 #

Cycling 30:00 [2]

Heel-friendly spin. Pleasantly surprised when Browner and Bash stopped by on their long run.

Thursday Apr 2, 2015 #

Hiking 45:00 [0]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Back to the spikes, with AD.

Strength 20:00 [2]

Caron's core class.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Yoga class seemed a bit lonely without P who passed away suddenly from a brain tumour.

Wednesday Apr 1, 2015 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Foothab, kneehab, heelhab +roller, Workout #2+KB.

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

(95 min) Commute with BZdog. The Palgrave Glacier is receding but the feeble spikes on the snowcross were inadequate for a couple of steep sections.
