Raid the Rib with the Gallys.
Course had a main map and a Northeast and South map, both worth about 800-900 points. We headed up NE, figuring the road run and tougher nav with thicker bush would suit our skills. Gally was clean on the nav, but it was slow going through a lot of deadfall. We got back to the main map a bit later than we thought, and ended up leapfrogging the male team WTF a lot on the way back to the relay.
Ms Gally was a trooper, even though her bare shins took a huge beating, and she rolled an ankle pretty badly- twice. Gally was running strong I but couldn't tow or help Ms. G much except on the road and main trails, so she showed how tough she is.
Relay went fine, but I took my time on the "long easy" leg as it's such a tricky area. After that we had time to clean the main map, finishing by gambling on the crossing to the island CP near the finish. It turned out to be mostly frozen swamp, so it was fine and we got back with a few minutes to spare.
We tied WTF but they got us on time. Attack from Above was just behind us.
Bender/Hansel/Logie and the Foreigners came in late, but with a ton more points so they were 1-2 overall, then WTF and us.
In hindsight, we had time to grab one more 50 pointer from the South map without penalty, and could even have made another 100 pointer if we went into penalty time. We would still have been 2nd co-ed but 3rd overall. Or we could have lost everything if MsGally's ankle quit.
We worked well together. Gally is amazing at map reading and planning on the fly in terrible footing, and very fast in thick bush despite being so tall. MsG is a trooper, tough as nails, and we get along great in a race situation and all pace well together.
Note- heel and hamstring were getting sore by the end, but lots of icy water crossings helped. Hobbling a bit after the drive home.
