JK relay - First leg of Men’s Short with Kate and Michael
Basically a head-to-head with several M16/18s. Some small mistakes and the guys would get ahead, and vice versa when I was clean. Was with a group into spectator control and ditched them up the hill to come in 3rd hehe, just behind Jim Bailey and another. It was a fun race!
Kate had one big mistake but Michael kept his mostly clean and we finished 9th I think, ahead of the Clive, Will and Harry (other MWOC team), woohoo

- Results are now up and apparently I was 2nd on first leg (not sure who the ‘another’ was but perhaps not on our relay) and team 12th overall

JK Long
Had the worst kind of news yesterday - had run out of emotions by the time the race came around but on the whole a bit distracted. Not the most enjoyable experience :(
In terms of the orienteering, fairly clean through the first lot. Small mistake to 7, hitting the wrong path after road crossing and turning left. Bigger issues on 8 getting lost en route. Took the route on public footpaths through houses to 9, but then some locals were shouting at me to not cross the crossable fence as it was their own community fence. This really was distracting and my head was gone to 10, went off on a wild one down the wrong path and a few hundred metres later I had to properly relocate. Was v lucky that it wasn’t the worst route but still a few other mistakes on the same leg.. Cleaner after this again around the bottom loop. Was so so grateful for the water stop, it was the only thing keeping me going on that long leg to 17. Then caught Charlotte and Lizzie so had a bit of a tow/boost for the final bit of the course.
Very surprised that Jo never came past me and that I won overall but I guess I was able to keep a high enough speed and despite some dodgy legs, I took most of them cleanly.
1st today and my first overall JK win

JK Middle - Windmill Hill
Such a fast area and overall pretty scrappy. I don’t think there were many controls where I was being really secure but no biggies at least, mostly just small issues in the circle and a couple of not so good routechoices. Very much appreciated that drinks stop!
3rd behind Cat and Jo, +40s

Pretty clean through first lot and happy with my routes. I thought I spotted Charlotte around no 8/9 in front of me but now I’m not so sure! Heat doing funny things to the brain ;) I definitely saw her coming out of 15. Had still been clean through all so far. I was getting tired but with her in my sights I kept pushing on, though ballsed it up a bit on 22 when I got trapped. Was very surprised to still have a gap and take the win overall. Great run from Cecilie (a close shave!)
I enjoyed the course. Even though there was a lot of hard running I thought there was still a reasonable amount of tricky bits and micro routechoice too. Just dying a bit as it was so fast..
