adventure race race (bonk hard chill) 10:55:00 [4]

Great race, had some issues; This was my first race of the season with the team and it was my second time looking at maps this yr, and it showed.
We started out with a trek and this went fairly smoothly. we basically were the front of the "herd" since fusion, alpine, 34 all jetted out from the started. We hopped on bikes and rode until a bike drop and trekked over to the canoes. During this canoe leg, there were 3 controls to trek to and i had our first issue. bobbled slightly on the 3rd one, lost five min. then I didn't focus on the map to get back to the canoes and made at least 10-15 min error. Sloppiness. the rest of the paddle went well. we actually paddled decently. We jumped out, trekked back to the bikes and headed towards single track territory (which was great!) We did fine initially and then the mojo wheels tried to fall off. We had a front tire of Dave's that gave us fits and took us several attempts to correct. Then on a simple control I simply missed a road marking which caused me to believe we were in a different spot. We hunted for the CP, double re-checked our plot and after 30 min we started from scratch and figured out the mistake. We rallied and finished out the bike and went into the final trek to the finish. We quickly plotted the final points, and were told 3rd place coed team was 20-25 min ahead. We rallied and I was determined to leave it on the course. Dave D was a madman sprinting the controls. We caught a couple 2 person teams and the 3rd place team; on the 2nd to last CP we had some confusion on the passport we had to sort out (5 min) and my mojo tried to let me down again; I bobbled badly the next control (20 min) and ran the last one clean. In the meantime, 3rd place coed team did their best to catch us at the last second but we managed to stave them off, baaaarrely.
Definitely one of my roughest nav races I can remember having in quite a while. We rallied well, our transitions were great throughout (no lost time).
