GodZone 2019 Canterbury w team #22 Checkpoint Zero (Paul Humphreys, Peter Jolles, Erl and me)

LEG 1 - PROLOGUE
The entire prologue has to be completed, but no time credits are given for a fast finish (except the bonus extra time for map study). So our plan was to stick together in the chaos of a mass start. Paul and Erl led out and Peter looked after me trailing behind. I was really focused on not taking a slippery step and we ended up as the last-placed PURE team in this section.

“Freedom Paddle” rental from Marahau Sea Kayaks mean you go thru a 45min class, paddle for 5min w the guide, and then you are free to go wherever you want! we chose the one-way option so we paddled from Marahau to Anchorage Bay and then the water taxi picked up our boat and we were free to walk/run the Coastal Track back to our vehicle.

pretty windy out there but our boat was super stable so we just plowed thru everything. saw some seals on Adele Island. stopped at Sandfly Beach to pee. otherwise a beautiful paddle in the shadow of Abel Tasman NP.

Run 2:17:24 [3] 8.69 mi (15:49 / mi) +1988ft 13:00 / mi
ahr:123 max:155 shoes: Salomon Fellraiser #3 blue M8

once our boat was turned in (due at 3:30p) we packed up our PFDs and paddles, put on shoes, and shuffled the Coastal Track back to the vehicle. passed a medical helicopter attempting a rescue. a bit warm in the sun and we didn’t have enough food so...good GZ prep.
