Adventure Race 81:05:00 [3]

Untamed New England w Tim Anna and Erl!

Leg 1 Trek
Sunday River Ski Resort + 3 Bunnies
got a R heel blister and scraped up L knee in first 60 minutes. of course. but fun to run w a group and chat time w abiperk. once we hit CP5, it was into the woods, and poof! no more teams in sight. nice. woods were much better than we thought and Tim hit a great line to CP6, which we approached w Biciventure and Chaos Machine. then onto CP7 got a little turned around on incorrect hilltop, tough to relocate w fog/veg, but made it onto correct spur and punched CP7 w MRC and Deviate (and rescued Deviate's passport from abandonment). hit CP8 w Deviate still in a downpour and then trotted to the TA. changed clothes in the Uhaul and started biking.

Leg 2A Bike
Evans Notch
fast road ride for the first bit, then a gradual paved climb up over Evans Notch, fast descent in the rain, and then hit 10-11-12 with no issues. into TA all alone.

Leg 2B Paddle
Saco River

Leg 3 MTB/MTB-O-relay/MTB
onto bikes as the sun was rising, a v wet TA where the volunteer dog Tempo ate Erl's unattended sandwich!! we met Deviate and Chaos Machine in TA again.
1hr sleep for Tim/Anna at the MTB-O-relay

Leg 4 Trek
A-B-C-D-E-F
2 hours sleep 3a-5a
my feet exploded and i slowed the team down :(

Leg 5A Bike
in the rain

Leg 5B Trek
short but we made it difficult

Leg 5C Bike
extreme chafing caused tears

Leg 5D Trek
rails to trails into Dover

Leg 6 Paddle
Dover to Newmarket
then trek to Browne School

Leg 7 Bike/Foot-O Relay/Bike & Tie/Bike
missed due to short course

Leg 8 Paddle
Newmarket to Kittery/finish line
after trekking back from Browne School

81 hours, 2 hours real sleep for me and then some sleep-paddling at the end. I felt like I needed less sleep than usual during this race for some reason. Also i had a lot of skin issues which is unusual. I got a heel blister from the Leg 1 trek, but that was somewhat manageable. Then the tops of my feet were raw from heat rash turned into blisters on Leg 5. I was wearing all my normal stuff but the socks were brand new/unwashed. I think maybe that caused some irritation?? Finally I had extremely painful chafing during the Leg 5 bike. I don't know what happened there either but trekking around in wet bike shorts on Leg 5B did not improve the situation. Anyway we had some great paddles and Tim's nav was excellent! more details later :)
