so so hard. singletrack not tech, lots of gravel, but tons of climb. owwwww.

more words: great day to be on a bike. i knocked out the first lap feeling good, HR a little higher than preferred, but all systems go. fizzled on the second lap. didn't affect overall standings much but still i need to pace these individual efforts better. lower back and hands hurt the worst, legs (and knee!) were actually fine throughout. nutrition/hydration fine. equipment fine - Specialized Fast Trak on front and Kenda SB8 on rear, tubeless, 25-30ish psi each. tech skills and confidence improved. better course intel (both research on my part and publication by RD) would have helped motivation a lot - on the second lap i was questioning a lot if i was on the correct route which was hard to push through mentally. even a simple note w aid station mileages taped to my bars would have helped. but overall pleased w this, my longest mtb ride ever, and also in total awe of the superstar NUE women. wow!!!

sorry, more stats update:
76 riders registered (10 women)
47 finishers (7 women)
i was 5th place female, 42nd overall. winning male was 8:05. winning female was 8:57.

like any good injured athlete with way too much time on their hands, when i ordered the stinsons, i also ordered a pair of mafates for comparison, thinking i would just return the pair i liked least. tonight i wore the mafates and they are definitely getting returned. something about how the upper is cut makes them feel stiffer, and they feel heavier too. blech. they also fit larger than the stinsons despite being the same size. so. now you know.

workout was just getting EZ time back into the legs. ran through FP and through a drum circle! oh yeah!
