w David in the race canoe, and the Sonas in their race canoe, and Nicholas. put in on the Meramec at Telegraph and paddled to Tesson Ferry and back. met Nicholas midway. started in the rain but was sunny at the end. fortunately, Jeff has a brilliant strategy for paddling in the rain. NOT JOKING. LOVE THEM.

Adventure Race 3:15:00 [4] ***
14c

Goomna w Jeff and David = Alpine Shop! got maps in the morning, plotted 8pts via distance/bearing (no UTMs). we were assigned "Group A" which means we ran first. all pts ROGAINE. got our first 4 CPs in about 40 minutes. then onto bikes, first CP had a gym challenge (30 pullups, this self-wheelbarrow thing, and team tire flip) that we very much enjoyed. then next CP had a team swim across a pond, very much appreciated since it was getting hot. next CP a little off the plot but it had volunteers there so we found it. then we went north of town to Silver Lake, a little longish route choice but into final biking CP. got instructions for 2 more pts, one involved a team "slackline" across water to the boats, then a combo out-n-back paddle/run, then one CP on foot. then biked back into town and learned we were finished and we won! 2nd place (OTF) about 30min back I think.

we worked hard and had a ton of fun. before the race i was nervous about the "special unknown challenges" (bottleneck potential) and weird plotting method but turned out everything went smoothly. weather was hot n windy but not as bad as other years i'm told. also, post-race meal was sandwiches AND WINGS!!!!! delish. fun race to keep everyone on their toes.

DIRT CRIT SEASON IS UPON US. #1 last week got flooded out. #2 this week was on in VP. B race, small but quality women's field. bike-doped on Carrie's carbon FS. i ended up leading laps 2-6, with second place on my wheel starting lap 3, until her rear wheel fell off and then i sorta JRA for the last 1/4 lap. crazy thing was i felt i was gaining time on the twisty/turny stuff, and then just holding my gap on the power section (only one main one). big improvement from last year.

Bike (wu/cd) 20:00 [2] 3.0 mi (9.0 mph)
shoes: GF Superfly 100 FS (Carrie's)

warm up/cool down. includes a lap of the kid's course with my BFF!

uh yeah. holy slogfest! dunno if it's still DK200 fatigue, or high temps/humidity, or the tempo ride last night, but my body was not thrilled about running this morning. too bad, body, i had to go pick up the car.

GF w HH. just before we started a lady pulled up asking for help locating her husband injured in a crash "somewhere". so we got as many details as possible and set out to look for him. we found him really quickly, bc another rider had helped him hike out by the radio tower. the rider was v shaken up, probably concussion. that image stuck w me for the first few miles and i was timid. then HH put me in the lead and i got braver. finished up fun. PS TWO TICKS!!
